Seeing the glasses post, no pun intended. As you get older guys, and cataract surgery may come along, go for it. I had one eye done on the NHS, out sourced to private care. Couple of hours later perfect distance vision. Other eye started developing a cataract so I went private and paid myself £1,300. Worth every single penny ! Mine were fast growing and it was getting a little depressing as every six months it was a new prescription. Would of cost me more in new glasses / lenses before I got an NHS referral.

My distance vision is now 20/20.

Idk about prices in Canada, but based on my experiences in NY, be prepared to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Every time you say yes to an option the price goes up. My most recent pair of lenses get dark outdoors, have anti glare coatings and have the three prescriptions for close up, mid range and long distance. I try to put off new eyeglasses for as long as possible. It’s insane how expensive they have become.
I try to avoid coatings since they degrade making the lens worthless over 3-4 years. My prescription has not changed in decades. I still use a couple of old frames with uncoated lens that I got 15-20 years ago.

I did decide to convert one of the frames to polarized sunglasses for driving without the bifocal.

Found a bat sleeping on my kayaking cap in my home office this morning. It’s now been moved (without touching) to a quiet, darker room where it’ll be put next to an open window so it can fly away this evening (assuming it’s not injured). I suspect it flew into the office last night and couldn’t find the open window again so had a nap through exhaustion.

Mrs P advised(!) me that I should see the sawbones to check on my prostate as she thinks I wee a lot.

Filled in the online form this morning requesting a consultation at 11.35am. At 11.45am I was phoned up offering me an appointment (with a male doctor) at 12.25pm today.

Went along to the surgery in good time and was seen about half an hour late, but I can live with that.
Described my symptoms and he took it all in and explained what it probably was. I then had to wee into pot and suffer the dreaded rubber glove!

Diagnosis is I do have an enlarged prostate (sigh) and he sent me a pile of stuff to read. Plus I have to have bloods done and appointment for that is next Friday.

Highly impressed by how I was treated by the NHS and the sawbones, who, incidentally, was one of @Randy ’s countrymen.

Next thing is a review after the bloods are done.

If you haven’t had your prostate checked and, like me, you’re an older chap I would recommend you do…just to be sure one way or the other.

Been there Steve, wee too often and in too small a quantity. There is a prescription drug called Finasteride which works, takes (on me) about 3 weeks to kick in and to reduce the size of the prostate but after that you should see an increase in the amount of wee that you pass and therefore reduce the frequency that you need to go. This is really basic stuff but you may think its a good idea to take an old jam jar to the loo and pee into that so that you can get a benchmark as to how much you pee now.

I hope and pray that the blood test is good news.

Noted about the rubber glove, I thought it would hurt like hell, all I felt was a bit of a push!

A side effect of the Finasteride is that it makes the hair on your head grow thicker.

Very cool, hope he's ok.

Mine, thankfully, is still normal and well. Those things can really change your life.

A relative has an Audi A3, she can barely afford to run it. The window switches on the drivers door have failed, the levers have all gone limp and don't power the windows, this is a known and common fault but means a replacement and access via the removed door card. Audi want £175 to look at it without doing any work. New switch unit is another £75 and two hours labour which I think works out at about £150 an hour.

These guys certainly know how to charge when it is a failure on their part.
