Tonight, just to spite the nay sayers, I tried the Schick Krona with a Feather blade (1), and then the older type Wilkinson Sword Classic with a Feather (3). Great results.
The point isn't that you need to do it this way because you haven't found - and fallen for - the right razor, it's that you can do it this way, precisely because you have found the right razor + no one is gonna tell me that dicking about with conspicuous consumption isn't fun, even if it's just to your own reflection.
