Occams Razor

Forum GOD!
53 years young, and shaving with DE razors again for the first time since the 90s. I honestly don't know why it took so long to find my way back, but I'll put a big chunk of blame at the feet of the marketing behemoth created by the cartridge manufacturers. I currently have a modest King C. Gillette razor, and I'm trying my way through a few brands of blades - King C Gillette, Jifuli, Feather, Wilkinson Sword and Derby. My brush is a stiff, prickly thing from the supermarket, but I've ordered a cheap Yaqi from AliExpress. I mostly use Palmolive shaving cream in a tube, but was fortunate enough to get some Proraso sandalwood scented soap in a tub only yesterday. The stuff is heaven-scent! In time, I'll hopefully give some feedback on what works. I love the meditative moments when shaving - the calm, deliberate and ritualistic minutes when outside thoughts disappear of their own accord. And leaving a smaller footprint, both economically and environmentally makes me happy too.

Now that i think about it, it would have been mid to late 80s rather than 90s. I'm pretty sure it was a Gillette DE, but can't for the life of me remember the specifics. Its lost in the mists if time. The soap was always a Williams stick in the blue base with the matching plastic screw on lid. There was also Prep - a white menthol scented ointment or balm that served as a good pre-shave. I just discovered that it is still available! https://sashopnz.co.nz/products/prep-cream-derma-protective-100g-tub

In 1989 I did my military conscription and "graduated" to a twin blade cartridge razor, driven by the need for convenience, conformity and the need to be able to pass inspections.
