Jasper is for the most part gone

As the title says Jasper Alberta has basically ceased to exist as a town thanks to forest fires. The boss and I have visited and stayed there on several occasions over the years. The scenery and the ambience Jasper had to offer made it one of our favourite places to experience. I am sure we are not the only ones who feel this way. At least we had the experience and regaining the patina of history the place had may never be quite possible.

Unfortunately I’ve not visited Jasper. I’ve been to Banff and Lake Louise several times in summer and winter, but never made it up to Jasper. What a shame a national treasure has been destroyed.

That is really too bad that you missed out going to Jasper. I much prefer Jasper to Banff and Lake Louise as Jasper seemed less commercialized. The best Alberta national park is Waterton National Park from our pov. It still had a small town feel when we were there on several occasions, but it too has been ravaged by forest fires several years ago. I don't think those fires got to the village site but scared up the area around it. We have not been back since those fires to see how it has recovered. It is/was a real gem.

Stayed in Jasper some years ago as part of a Coast-to-Coast rail trip. Really liked the place and its pleasant vibes.

Sorry to hear of its destruction. Hope it will rise again in time.

I too was greatly saddened by this news of the destruction. Jasper over the years has been a go to place for me and my family. For us, it held so many positive memories and firsts - giving lessons to ski there to the kids and also my wife, first Black Bear dart out in front of the minivan, first wolf sighting - way bigger than a coyote, Seeing Elk wander around by the preserved steam loco. I got engaged at Earls - not sure if it’s still there. Also did a memorable gentle white water rafting experience just out of town too. The place had so much to offer, the folk there were so helpful and welcoming.

I just hope that with the passage of time, the town will get back to some semblance of its charm and beauty.and once again be a go to destination when in Alberta. I’m hoping to be around to see that happen.
