Interest in military history

I found this vid of interest to me

Birth of a Giant - CP-107 Argus

I have had the good fortune to fly in the Argus CP-107, the Yukon and the Britannia airliner in my younger days. The flight in the Argus CP-107 took place while it was flying out of Rosy Roads Porto Rico on a NATO AS night exercise. It was a very interesting experience for a young sailor in the Canadian Navy.

I flew on the Yukon just shortly before it retired from service and on the Britannia as a charter flight from my home to Frankfort Germany.

I have been to Belgium, Flanders and France many times to give thanks to the bravest of the brave.
The Canadians and Newfoundlanders gave so much.
This place will forever stay in my thoughts.
Thank you Canada.

Your mention of Flanders brings up another aspect of military history that is not solely confined to Canada. I am sure that after every war and in every country new thoughts on remembrance of the dead appear.

For me as a Canadian, one of the most poignant is the poem In Flanders Fields.

Growing older, I realise now how utterly wasteful of human life war is. More is the pity as we seem doomed to keep repeating this madness.

So many young men set out with enthusiasm and the thought 'back home soon', no idea of the horrors to come just a few short strides from their mothers apron.
