Info on this razor

I'm new to the double edge shaving scene and have purchased a Merkur 41c (love it) and a pre-war Tech (also really like it). I like the history of Gillette and would prefer to use something vintage, so looking to combine the history of the tech but the style of the Merkur. Found this old Gillette on the Bay. Believe it's what the Merkur is based off of, I'd like to know how it would be in use in comparison to the 41C. Thanks!

Hello and Welcome, huge source of knowledge on here. I am a big fan of the Gillette Tech, it works for me and the way I shave, I have tried many others and none have worked quite as well as my 10 euro 1970 plain Travel Tech. Generally speaking they are a mild razor and suit most people.

Thanks Vacumatic. I have another Tech en route, slightly later model, and I went ahead and purchased the old Gillette that I linked to on Ebay. If I don't like it as much as the Merkur, I'll pass it along and just use one or both of the Tech razors. I'd really like to stick to vintage razors. Loving the Durham Duplex handle that I put on it. Here are pics of my incoming razor that I’m curious about. I was going to wait until I got some info on it or heard some opinions, but thought what the heck. It should be here in a few days and I'll be able to compare it my others.

Can anyone tell me how these three piece old types differ head wise from the single or double ring old types? Same head just with handle that detaches? Also does it look like a thick or thin cap?

It's a thin cap (and baseplate) Old type (pre-1920) with a non-Gillette handle, the original handle probably split. It's the best razor ever made, and the one all razors made since are based on, it's a keeper!!! If you like the Tech you will love the OLD.

Thank you sir! I’ve read a lot of your posts and know that you’re a solid advocate of the old gillettes. Partly why I wanted to try one out. Excited to give this piece of history a try. Do you have any experience with the Merkur razors like the 41c and how they might compare with the old types?
Oh! And also why do you prefer the single ring over a three piece like this one?

Never tried any Merkur, except for a handle from a 1904. The Single Ring is also a three piece, and I don't have a good answer as to why I like it more, just aesthetics I guess.

Razor showed up with a bent top cap. Not usable. BOOOOOO!!!!
