There didn't used to be internet to tell us what to do. How did people know that razor blades were sharp? How did they have forums back then? How long can you troll before the management does something?

Perhaps until people use the Report functionality or tag a mod or two and ask to close the thread. Besides, Chris gave the last user exhibiting peculiar behaviour a warning, which is pretty fair and I think that user then calmed down somewhat.

Also consider that some people with disorders affecting how they communicate might be using the fora. Not that we couldn't try to steer them a little, but there's a difference between dropping reasonable hints and bashing.

On the other hand, some of the responses in the threads you likely have in mind have been rather juvenile from members who have been around a fair amount of time to know better.

There were some amusing replies, but there were also responses in those thread that were effectively reverse trolling masquerading as attempts at humour.

The vast majority of the members treat each other with respect and do not readily argue or take issue with an opinion voiced by others, the additional benefit of this is that spammers are shown in high relief.

I would love to be able to add one or two only to an ignore list. It’s not possible to without this facility on the forum. Some people can’t search and just go crazy posting but you can’t turn this off.

Exactly it’s hard to ignore spamming which is the point of spam.

It is possible, I definitely did this during the early Covid days

There has been a cull of pointless content and the user in question has been warned.

Unfortunately the light moderation approach which gives the forum its relaxed atmosphere also means that we have to give people a chance before waving the banhammer, especially when posting drivel is not expressly forbidden by the rules.
