Check out razorblades.com , they have razors for 5 to 7 euros that can tick your box and are somewhat better quality than the ones on aliexpress. If you buy a razor, you automatically get free shipping, so if you have some additional money, you can order some blades as well, and they have a very wide variety.

Regarding plating loss on razors, plating loss on razors made of pot metal/Zamak/zinc alloys is much more serious than plating loss on razors made from carbon steel. Plating loss on the first can lead to horrible and severe corrosion rather quickly when compared to the latter.

Generally, razors made of stainless steel or titanium are not plated as there is no real need for it.

Well, i went to take a look at the Baili & yintal shops mentioned above and what i found are: Stainless steel + zinc alloy or Stainless zinc alloy or brass

are these any good?

You got me there. Afaik, it is either stainless steel, zinc alloy or brass. It could be that the wording is poor in the descriptions at Chinese shops. I can't see an all brass razor with no plating having corrosion issues other than getting a patina. There was lots of brass on ships to shine for morning watchmen when I was in the navy. Other than that, I have no idea what they are describing.

The one I mentioned with dual head from Baili has the head from zamak alloy with good coating of chrome.
The handle brass plated with chrome.

The butterfly one is handle made of brass and head part of zamak.

You won't find cooper/brass/stainless steel at a 20$ price.

A good stainless steel top cap and base plate are 50-80 $.

Also the only brass butterfly razor I know is the old restored Gillette.
The only full stainless steel butter fly I know is the one from rockwell, and it is not cheap.

That clarifies it nicely, thank you. I had thought they were mixing materials in a single razor and turns out they were.

If you are in your beginning in this wet shaving stuff I recommend you get a standard Merkur 34c and use that for 6 months untill you get the technique of shaving right.

After that you decide what other razor might suit you. It is important to learn and to make the shaving session like brushing your teeth.

At this stage it is premature to seek a better razor as you have not yet harnessed the shaving movements, balance of the razor in your hand.
Try for example to brush your teeth with left arm...you will see that, although you use the same brush, you will find it to be less efficient. Same goes here. Harness the technique before plunging for new gear.

@Miro said he was happy enough with one of his current shavers, and that he'd be interested in a TTO otherwise, so I'm not sure a Merkur is going to bring anything useful to the table.

If I'm understanding what he wrote earlier, he really seems to after is better longevity of his shaver (or extending the life of what he already has), rather than just a different razor.

You are all right. I am still a beginner as i'm less than a year into DE shaving and i've experienced only 2 razors.
1. Knowing the one that i like (Gillette clone) will soon lose it's handle - i like to extend its life with a handle.
2. Disliking the "baby futur" - and finding the need to disassemble the Gillette for a blade change annoying, i look for the butterfly TTO as if it will be good, i'll use the TTO for shaving my face and the Gillette for shaving my head.

I don't want to spend much on a simple device like a razor. i feel that if i could find a great razor (head, not the handle) for about $3. i'll surely find a similar (but TTO) for not much more than that.

With the time and experience, i don't mind paying much more for a good razor.
At this stage, i feel that every purchase is still a gamble as i can't be sure how good i will find the razor i'll buy

Maybe i'm not using it perfectly, i can accept that. but personally, it is less comfortable for me to use it, maybe because it is too heavy

Maintain? i had no idea they require that?
I just keep them in the shower room when i need to shave and on the bathroom's windowsill afterwards.

as for it's quality, it looks like something happened to it below the color, i'll add a photo to show.
The finish has been compromised and the Zamac is corroding away, nothing will fix that, it will get worse quickly.

I don't clean my razor until I change the blade, then I just wash it with soap and water. Most of my razors are three piece brass, and you really don't need to clean them at all.

Not sure about not cleaning them at all, I've seen quite a few of them in really poor shave on eBay.
Maybe it wasn't from the lack of cleaning, but it does seem likely. 🤔

There are a lot of razors in the $3 area that fall to pieces when you so much as squint at them, and some are so poorly made that they can't even be used for shaving.
There are a few that are OK, and you quite likely got a little lucky in having bought one of those, but TTOs are somewhat more mechanically complicated, so you'll probably need to pay more than that to find one that would last a while.

The ones mentioned in this thread are fairly inexpensive while being reasonably well made.
If you could get your hands on a vintage brass Gillette for not much money, you could be set.

Maybe i wasn't explaining myself clearly. i'm not looking for $3 razors. the $3 razor i bought was for trying how DE will work for me
while it surprised me that such a cheap razor can shave so well, i do look for one of higher value as it's clear to me i got lucky with this one.

Since i still have a lot to learn, when it comes to finding a new razor and handle, your knowledge is very helpful, thank you all
