How many scrapes?

That is true. This could be for all sorts of reasons couldn't it?
One being 'what you fancy' as in scrape length,
then razor type, length of experience, stubble strength?, prep type, habit, all sorts.

So, this morning I counted the scrapes for one pass and extrapolated that to give me a figure 225 for a three pass shave. More than I expected.

I do rather short strokes and a bit of buffing on the last pass and therefore also easily get over the 200 mark. No wonder that I'm a proponent of "NO PRESSURE"
And I dislike the term "scrapes". I don't scrape.

I stopped counting at 200 "scrapes" and that was for one pass!
Just finished a 2 pass straight razor shave (previous was DE) and the total count was 359 "scrapes".

The count for the first WTG pass was 143 "scrapes" and second ATG pass count was 216 "scrapes".

It seems that more "scrapes" are needed when going ATG.

This popped into my mind today when I was shaving. A few days growth so that may have affected it but with a bit of extrapolation around halfway through the first pass I reckon 150 would be about right. I'm a short scraper.

In all the time, that I have been shaving I'v never counted!
But I will tomorrow, cant understand how some of you have over 300.
I mean, Are you folks just shaving your face???

Took a little of my meditative presence away this counting, but I ended up with 190 and 120 "scrapes" for the two passes, understood as cutting touches of the blade on my face no matter how long in time or distance. So that's just over 300 for the full shave. Likely varies with razor/razor types. But this shave was a short stroke one; it has never dawned on me to try and compare systematically short vs long stroke. I might just go for the same razor and long strokes tomorrow to see if there's a difference.

Side note, there's something called participant bias, the (willed or unwilled) altering of behaviour due to being part of a study or experiment, which may be explaining the reduction from first to second pass, and even the total count...

This is interesting. In what direction is your first pass?

I find that the blade sees more resistance from the hair when going atg thus more "scrapes" on the second (atg) pass are needed.

I rarely go ATG – despite my membership here. First pass WTG (N-S on my face, S-N on lower neck to line just above Adam's apple, N-S from jawbone to said line), second pass XTG on face (from ear toward nose on both sides) and varying whether repetition of the two-stroke solution of first pass on the neck or one stroke N-S or S-N (never sideways on the neck).

First pass is presumably the relatively speaking more efficient pass, though, so that could explain why I go for less buffing or short strokes on second pass?
