Hot or Cold?

Like you I also used to use hot water. After joining some shaving forums I saw that many people espoused shaving with cold water. I saw the light. Now, I still use hot water to make the lather. But I rinse with cold water after each pass and for my final rinse and rinsing off the alum. It's incredibly invigorating and I do think the skin tightens a bit from the cold water.

I really was disappointed that both Haslinger and Mitchell's removed tallow from their formulas. Was never the same. Mitchell's paid the price and went belly up. It's incredible that for so many things that I find that I end up absolutely loving, regardless of what it is, someone makes the decision to change something that is amazing and end up ruining it. I realize many people rave about Haslinger's new formula and I'll have to try it at some point. But I just don't get the need to change for change sake.

Many artisans do that too. Not always for the better.

With that said, the new Haslinger Sheep is not any different than the old tallow one. Ok, probably leaves a drier face but that's all.

ATG,
Warm water for me from now on! For me I think hot probably opened the pores and softened the skin too much leading to some irritation and a burning sensation with some aftershaves. Based on some of your replies I am now researching aftershave with Witch hazel instead of alcohol. During the winter I will switch to balm aftershave.
Thank you again for all you suggestions they are respected and appreciated.
