Hello from the Midwest, USA. I suppose I am a retro-newbie to DE shaving, having begun with a $1.00 Super Speed with a blue tip, while using Gillette Blue and Super Blue blades during the early 1960's. After a few years, I acquired two brand-new Gillette Slim Adjustable razors, at $1.75 each, and rotated them for approximately twenty years, until DE blades virtually disappeared from retail outlets. Those two Slims, long since lost, were as good as new, in appearance and performance, after two decades of daily use.

I next used an adjustable Schick injector razor, but before very long replacement blades for the razor likewise became unavailable. I was then, by default, drawn into a Rip Van Winkle-like shaving somnolence during which I rode the Gillette merry-go-round and its multi-blade razor wars and their outrageously expensive cartridges for many years. When it was proposed that I buy a throw-away razor with a AAA battery in its handle, I knew better. "No more," I said. For several years, I used a generic single-blade injector, only rarely bothering to change its blade.

Alas, a few months ago I awakened to a renaissance in wet shaving, with its multitude of wonderful products and the availability of vintage razors and significant varities of available blades. I recently acquired a vintage Gillette Slim, marked L-2 (2nd quarter of 1966). Of that, and of the inexpensive Gillette Silver Blue blades, I am thankful.
