Great soaps/creams that have become 'unfashionable'

I used La Toja cream for the first time this weekend. I found it to be a wonderful cream and one that I want in my rotation.

There are so many soaps and creams out there that it's like restaurants; a new one opens and everyone forgets about how great the food is at the old ones. It's too easy to shove a great performer to the back of the cabinet and forget it's there. I even like Nivea Sensitive cream for £1.50.

Tabac, tabac!? I love that stuff, not that I have much experience, having only ever used around six soaps. The style hasn't changed, it's still very eighties, but functionality-wise it's tremendous, or as the kids would say, it's siiiiiiiick. Have I made it favourable again by saying that it's siiiick?

In a kind of role reversal, Kiss my Face shave creams seem to be talked about quite a bit now, but when I joined wet shaving forums ten years ago they got barely a mention, despite being around at that time.
Mitchell's Wool Fat seems to be on the decline in forum talk.
De Vergulde Hand is another dead soap.
Musgo Real doesn't seem to get mentioned much either.

Col. Conk (though I've rarely heard it referred to as a 'great' soap. Ditto for Van Der Hagen)

I don't know if its become unfashionable or that its not as good as the old soap formula, but I don't often see Williams Mug Soap around in Brick & Mortar shops in North America these days. Also seems that in NA today, Artisan Shaving Soap is not living up to the hype or fad that it once enjoyed.

It's not a good soap. The old formula was good, but it hasn't been good for about a decade.
NA 'artisan' shaving soap is suffering from a case of a flooded market. Too many products vying for exposure. Also, people have wised up to the fact that many NA 'artisan' soaps are made from commercial shaving soap base and the only thing the 'artisan' is doing is adding scent and color and pretty packaging.
I think there also is a difference between new wetshavers, who want to try "everything", and seasoned wetshavers, who already found their favourites.
The Palmolive stick may not be hyped right now, but it already worked for me in the 1980's. The same with some other soaps that I frequently use.

I think the point being made was that a lot of attention these days goes on the newer, super, 'artisan', trendy products and brands.
Where as Tabac comes in a orange-brown box straight from the 70's, the logo screams bad retro, it has meat in it (nearly) and it has a certain bouquet.
It is also one of the best lathering soaps out there (if you can't lather Tabac - grow a beard!), it's good value for money, it has a full range and the wife finds it less offensive than others I have bought.
