Gold wash on a Filarmonica?

I've got an old Filarmonica razor and its in excellent condition. It has been in storage and the blade has been coated in some wax (Renaissance wax?) to protect it.

I would like to polish the razor and clean off the wax, however I am aware and a little concerned about the fragility of the gold wash. I dont want to damage it, so does anyone have ideas how to gently remove the wax? I've read on another forum about using WD40 and a soft cloth. Would isopropyl alcohol damage it?

I use brake drum cleaner when restoring razors.

I would first try WD40 and a micro cloth this will definitely not harm the gold etching and should remove the old oil wax residue.

After I Use an Arkie Stone with Oil I Wipe the Blade with Petrol Lighter Fluid..Clean as a Whistle..
