Godrej shave soap any thoughts?

So having seen recommendations for Vicco shave cream and Mysore sandal soap, Indian old spice to name a few products. And I got to thinking what other Indian or south asian shaving/bathing hidden gems are there?
A little Google later I came up with Godrej shave round.

Godrej from what I can tell is a indian based company that goes back 1918 as Godrej Soaps Limited incorporated, started by a young man named Ardeshir Godrej. He had given up law in 1897 and originally turned to lock-making. He went on to make safes and security equipment, and then apparently stunned the world by creating toilet soap from vegetable oil lol.

They also do a few tube shave creams in the usual menthol extra lather etc. The little blue puck round seems to be touted by some as the Williams mug soap of India. Now I don't know how much in similarities they share if any ie scent, shave etc or if it's just cos it's a relatively cheap little round puck of soap that can fit into your average mug, but I am interested to get some info from you guys who have tried it. Really want to hear about its scent and shave and post shave. And to be honest any of you that can recommend any other Indian or south asian shave soaps and creams. I am thinking I can do a 50 shaves around the world if I can get software from as many countries as I can lol. I do love a hidden gem.

I did like using that soap, the scent was an odd one if I remember rightly. Unfortunately I cant remember much about it other than I liked it, think it got pifed in the end.
Also remember the creams were pretty good but thats as far as my mind will stretch.

Lol can not reall anything on the scent any notes stand out?

No, afraid not. It must be over 3 years ago from when I tried it.
The lather was great but the scent didn't really appeal, which is why it fell from the rotation. I'm sure it gets great praise online.

Great short write up, I never knew of its origins, interested to hear thoughts on this one.

Ah just read the whole article, I will have a look into this, give me a day or so, but I'm also hoping someone else may have some views on this (soap especially).

Oh, you're asking about Gotrej? (I thought we were still on Vicco) I have a few pucks (somewhere) that I've never tried. I did use several barbers in India (Puna/Dehli/Panjab/Himachal Pradesh) and to a man they used Palmolive... (^_-). I think it is probably similar in conception to Marseille soap or, I cannot remember it's name... the Palestinian one.

Never tried it but here's how it's described : Godrej Shaving Rounds are renowned for their lather and high quality.

I use to have it in rotation and always looked forward to using it. It's not the best soap but it is surprisingly good for the money, certainly near Palmolive stick quality. It lathers up a treat, but for me lacked slip/protection. Of course this is easily over come by whipping up a very dense lather and applying it to a wet face without rubbing it in to much. The water helps to create better slip.

Post shave as far as I can remember was OK, not drying on the skin but not moisturising either, pretty much well balanced, middle of the road.

The best part for me was the scent, it's an odd scent and I do like them this odd. It's difficult to describe, other than it's a very bright funky fern scent, some say industrial cleaner type scent, but if it is then it's pleasantly so for me. For the money it's certainly worth a punt and one every wet shaver should try at least once.

Interesting fact, before you lather take the soap out of it's container and flip it over, you will discover a key imprinted on the bottom, why? No one knows for sure. But I like to think that to use the puck this way up would bring me good luck.
