Girls Softball

Got any kids that play? My youngest plays High School ball with hopes of College ball. I played hardball/baseball for about 8 years. My daughter has been playing for 2-years this August. She grinds year 'round, rep after rep. She's better than I ever was. So I feed the fire and have fun with it.

Not saying the boys High School team doesn't put in the effort. But dang, these girls play hard. Half the team was injured at the end of last season. Pretty neat to see.

Downside, its pricy. Its worth it. She's busted 2 carbon bats and 2 weighted wooden training bats.

My son played for 17 years. When he walked off the field for the last time as a collegiate player, I choked up. I remember him tossing the 11” Rawlings to the side.

He told me it had been a great ride. That’s all that matters. Enjoy the ride and never loose sight that above all else, she’s your child and needs your unconditional love. ❤❤

I must admit - I’ve never played softball (nor baseball) and haven’t ever come across anyone playing it in England. I don’t think it’s a thing here, whereas there is a small niche for other American sports like American Football. Basketball definitely has more of a presence.

We have a game called ‘rounders’ that’s (very) broadly similar to baseball but with a small bat, no gloves and underarm pitching. It’s mostly played (fairly uncompetitively) at school or else at family parties where Auntie Teresa’s had too many gins.

Otherwise, we’re talking cricket.

But I digress. It sounds great for you both to have a sport that you both love and all of the memories that entails. I hope to get that with my kids one day. My eldest has just turned 4 and too young in himself to really get stuck into any one sport but loves to run and throw and kick!

We played softball at school, although I'm not sure it wasn't just rounders with a different bat and ball. It was fun though.

It’s a lot of fun. Father/Daughter time—important. Also seeing her reach her goals. She played High School JV last year with 1.5 years of play time under her belt. Coach wanted to bump her to Varsity for her prowess of hitting. She balked and stayed on JV to refine hitting and fielding, ferment per se.

I recently made a bet with her that she couldn’t put it over the outfield fence hitting off a tee at home plate. Quite the challenge under her own strength minus the added energy from a pitch. If she does it, I‘ll buy her an 33 -10 (23 oz) Easton Ghost composite bat. A pricy acquisition at $500. I lost.

It’s progress. Hard working girl.

This will be an upgrade over her Louisville LXT composite bats, game bat only. Some bats are better than others like anything else. They will fail eventually, downside.

The 2023 WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup is being held in our city now. Hard work will get you on your national team and the US has fielded a good one. They beat Canada 23 to zip in one match up already. Be interesting to see where everyone ends ups when the games are over.

That would be cool. I know she has aspirations to play college ball. After that, I’m unsure. I think softball kinda peters out after college. It’s a shame, even at High School level, they play quite aggressively. Exhilarating to watch.

How many countries play Baseball, Bob? Seems to be a bit of a stretch calling anything a World Cup if only a handful play it at professional level.

There are 12 teams competing in two groups. Group A in Canada now and group B in Japan in September. The top 2 teams in each group and two wild card teams will compete in the final in 2024.

My guess is that there are more countries involved whose teams did not make it to group A/B competion being previously eliminated. Even though the numbers involved are not near the levels in soccer it really is international in nature.

Warm up / mechanics off a tee, then into live pitch and defense drills. Reps, reps and more reps. My daughters High School season starts in a few months. Mimicking a inside pitch in pic, not an easy one to master.
