Hello I have just paid a tenner for one of these on ebay: said to be in as new condition and never used. It is an English made version. Are these any good, especially for a beginner? I guess for a tenner it does not matter much.

Started my brother out with one, very mild so will need a relatively sharp blade to get a decent shave... I think he settled on Gillette Sharp-Edge.

If you're a newbie, for £10 you cant really go wrong.

Nope. I bought one as well from the same seller last year. He has been selling one or two a month for ages. He must have a container full of them.
Lovely razor, very light (30g - aluminium) and quite mild. Even if you don't like it... the handle used with a Mühle R41 head was a revelation for me.
His razors are still on my watchlist. They sometimes sell for less than a fiver, but never when I'm looking.
I'd love to give one to my nephew for peanuts.. :D

I have one of these from the same seller - but it is a T2 - my birth year (not quarter but close enough). I paid a fiver, thankfully missing out on the 15 quid offer I made on his previous listing. decent everyday razor, VERY light. Nice acquisition, something to add to the collection. you can see the Gillette's being made from cheaper, lighter materials from the high point of the Fat-boy until eventually you see the plastic handles and light razors like these. Does it's job though. I like mine

The Tech end to end is a good razor ...

Yeah, the earlier ones with the heavier heads and handles, especially the British twin slot or the RFB, are substantially better, the later ones with the lighter cap and aluminium handles are still good razors. Angle is forgiving, they're not especially mild nor aggressive; they're right there in the middle suit all tastes.

Despite being a bigoted single edge shaver, I do still enjoy the guilty pleasure of a run through some of my Techs, a collection which I keep because I enjoy them as objects of industrial art. Most tactile.

Enjoy yours. It's a good razor.

I regularly wish I hadn't let my twin slot leave my possession. Perhaps I ought to get in touch with Erwin and see what he's got left these days...

keep your eyes open - there are bargains to be had. that said, some people don't rate them. someone once observed that they were over engineered, almost too complex for the simple act of shaving - it's a business model no company could stick to for a long period of time especially in such numbers. I got mine cheapish but took a risk because it was out of alignment. have you joined the pass-around on tsr?

He'll have one ... he sorted me out with a #77 recently and pushed yet another 1912 at me. How could I resist? :D

@flip-68 Nope because I am barred from it as a recent convert to a DE. I like the look of the Slim too but the Fatboy looks such a nice piece of engineering. Executive shaving has a recon one but up at nearly £200! Been on ebay and can't find any bargains for either the slim or the fatboy. Trouble with the net is people all see what other people price their stuff at then price it accordingly. When I get privileges I may put a request here and tsr but would have to be under a £100 for me to consider it. I am not at the stage where I can justify hundreds on a razor. I am on the passaround for the schick adjustable and that looks an interesting bit of kit.

Who is irwin?

you mean, you haven't been a member long enough?

some people get creative looking for razors on foreign websites and, as you say, a WTB request may bear fruit.

@flip-68 no he says he wants to limit it to experienced wet shavers who have developed the right technique: fair enough. I am new to a DE but shaved with the DE method even with a cartridge: light short strokes, probably buried in my subconscious from seeing my dad and grandad shave so did not do myself any damage even on my first DE shave with my EJ.

If anyone has got one for £40- £50 contact me without delay as I will have it. I have a 4 week wait on both sites before I can post in those sections though. Yes you are right seen a reconditioned fat boy on Executive shaving for £190 and all th others have been on Ebay for $100 plus for non tatty ones. with shipping and tax you are looking at £150. I am not creative: Ebay seems the only market I can find with a good selection. I don't know any others :(
