I have seven straight razors on sale at the moment with no problems. The bigger issue I have with EBay is their failure to enforce payment from people who bid but don’t pay. I’ve used Yahoo Japan auction and you have to lodge the money when you bid or prepare a snipe which seems fair to me.

Usually they ban them if they consider them to be counterfeit.

They do not specifically ban razors but they do ban anything sharp, in fact the Post Office refused to accept a padded envelope that I was sending because I had stapled the flat shut. A description label of Razor might mean that the item is not delivered.

Our small local post office never EVER ask.

No that’s not the case - I’ve been asked several times and have always had razors accepted in the post. In addition, if you’re posting abroad you have to declare on the export form and, again, that’s never been a problem.

Please look it up for yourself, the Post Office prohibits Bladed Articles and mentions cutlery and scissors amongst other items as being prohibited, similar story with the Royal Mail.

My City post office always asks about the contents of a parcel, even when there is a description on the label.

I accept that there may be a difference between what they say and what they do.

@Smiffy - I was not being intentionally argumentative or confrontational but admit my wording could have been clearer as I was referring to razors and, as you say, these are not on the prohibited list. My comment was more to do with the general thread about EBay and my experience of having bought and sold razors including straight razors for over 10 years.

I can confirm that I have also sent razors via Royal Mail with no problems, even when they've asked what it was.

I am getting more involved with this issue than is warranted by my interest. However, for the sake of completing the circle.

Both Royal Mail and The Post Office, separate companies remember, have a list of restricted items and prohibited items, both exclude bladed items, they specify scissors, cutlery and other similar items. I haven't researched this or even thought about it too much but I would have thought that a DE razor without a blade or an empty cartridge razor would be OK whereas a straight razor might not. What I don't know is whether a mail handler would open the parcel to check if a razor of whatever type had a blade or not.

I have had three parcels/envelopes damaged in the past, all containing metal non prohibited items, one had clearly been opened in transit for whatever reason, the other two had been ripped open.

I rang RM customer services this morning, I asked what would be the situation if the bladed item was accepted by the Post Office but on the RM restricted list, the answer was that RM would handle the item as they saw fit including non delivery. They explained that items can become trapped in the machinery and may pose a personal injury risk to employees.

The bottom line is do you have an realistic alternative to posting a prohibited item through Royal Mail, perhaps not.

I Have sent a few DE razors via Royal Mail. They always ask me what's in the package and I tell them its a safety razor. So far no issues. Always added a tuck or 2 of blades.
