I’ve been having some inconsistent difficulties with line of sight visibility on the right side of my face with the folders. The scales have been adversarial at times. Although it’s a minor inconvenience, I want to mitigate the potential for cuts or nicks which would be a real drag. My previous shave was with the SR. It seems I didn't post it here, only in the SOTD thread... as a lifelong lefthander it was my first attempt ever at shaving with any razor held in my right hand. Did the first pass using the SR - left hand, left side; right hand, right side. Going slowly and with intention it was a hugely successful pass. No complaints whatsoever shave wise, and I was quite pleased with the personal accomplishment.

Today (kit below) was different. Rather than switching hands I persevered with left hand only for both passes on both sides of my face. My final result was equally fine. I modified my grip / angle of scales to blade when necessary and it was a first-rate shave. There was a brief moment on the right side when I attempted to hold the razor at a 180° angle to sort of mimic a kamisori. I’d done this once before and although successful, felt it was perhaps an unnecessary risk. Remembering that uh-oh feeling, I refrained from doing it again.

It’s been about two months of using these AC straight razors and I learn more every time out. Technique is improving and outstanding shaves are the norm not the aberration. I think it was an easy skill to begin to acquire and am only sorry that I didn’t try these razors years ago. The Kai Woody I ordered should be here Monday next week. I await its receipt with great anticipation!

I agree. I’m heavily right handed but you can learn and there’s a huge sense of achievement when you do it (and it looks a lot less cack-handed)

I’m posting because I used the same AC blade in a single edge Jokmae. This is the 12th use of a Super Professional being used in the DX, SS, and Jokmae.

I agree. I’m heavily right handed but you can learn and there’s a huge sense of achievement when you do it (and it looks a lot less cack-handed)

I have to admit one of my concerns about the AC stuff was the cost of the blades but their longevity does seem to counter that argument quite well now. I'm on a ProGuard at #5 and it's marching on happily. I think my biggest thing now will be finding a blade I'm fully happy with.

Same as always, and plus the result is just what I've been getting all along. I am paying attention because I suspect one day its going South in a hurry, or not.

As you know I've spent most of my shavette time with half DE shavettes and learned the technique there and the AC clone which @Estariol kindly found for me will be my tool of choice going forward while I sort out blades and decide on whether to plunge for a Feather genuine. It was cost alone which made me head this clone way.

I was reading the thread above and somebody mentioned the lack of clones or even other manufacturers getting in on this game. For me, both AC razors and shavettes are greatly understated at the lower price end of the market. I borrowed the AC razor I'm using at the moment - the Shield Titanium - and received a selection of individual single blades to try it with which I can also try in the shavette.

In short, I think there should be more cheaper AC razors/shavettes on the market for everyone to access.

The SE holders seem to be more expensive than the RBSR type.

I paid $8 for the AC Jokmae SE. You probably have buying options that I don't. Safety Razors for Men & Women – Jokmae Razors

There are two versions like mine. One accommodates one AC blade and one has the option of one or two. All less than $30.

Today I went bilateral. It worked great! I did two killer passes for what used to be a rare 9.9 shave. They’re getting much more frequent lately since learning to shave with these RBSRs.

People, if you’re on the fence about trying to shave with these tools, let me assure you. It’s much much easier and safer than I ever thought or expected. One teeny nick in six weeks on day one. And another when I used an unguarded blade. When I next change the blade I will try an unguarded blade again.

This has been a totally revelatory and life changing experience. Seriously. My safety razors are developing a complex.
