Inspired by the Kamisori style Feathers I’ve ordered this

While the Tedalus Essence razor is easily the coolest looking shavette the long and fairly heavy handle does make it harder to precisely track the curvature of my face and I’ve always wondered if a kamisori would be easier but before dropping that much on a Feather I thought I’d splash out £7 on a clone and see if it’s just a fleeting interest or worth investing in.

Per Phil, the Rx head (and later, the Injector) was originally based on the look of the Cobra. I know nothing about AC safety razors. Are the two you mentioned long discontinued?

Updated post #1 with graphics from the Feather website. This way people can easily find the info there, all in one place. I’m searching for similar info on Kai products. If anyone knows of any, please post it.

Would be good to learn if there is a clone with the shape of the DX where the blade is held. I was fortunate to have found my Kamisori used for $100, but that still seems high.

One feature of the Feather DX "Japanese razor" in the "full tang" or near "full tang".

Tangentially and fwiw, in general there doesn’t seem to be an overly large variety of AC shavettes on the market. Feather, Kai, and a mere handful of clones, including the one you’ve posted. There’s a folding shavette on Maggard’s website (the kamisori is sold out) that’s piqued my interest which takes injector blades. If the kamisori becomes available again I’d consider that as a fun option. But really, I’m in no great hurry. I have two wonderful razors already, and one more on the way. It’s more than enough to keep me busy and sated. For now :D

yes, the Cobra Classic was (to my knowledge) the first razor using AC blades, apart from the shavettes. Several others followed; e.g. General, King Cobra, Mongoose, Asylum rx. Hiram Commander and Enoch were more recent - maybe 8 years ago? From the ones I tried ( Asylum Rx, Cobra Classic; Enoch, General, Hiram), Cobra Classic and Hiram are my favourites.
Anyway, your thread has pushed me to also start trying shavettes - currently experimenting with a cheap clone (Univlionns), but also have a Schick BBR-S, Feather SS and DX, and also somewhere in my large razor collection a Korean CJB (which I couldn't immediately find back).
I always thought of keeping this for when I retire, but your posts have pushed me to give it a try

The spine is a bit narrower than the original, but the shave is basically the same as with the DX - the super pro is a bit too much for me in it, too.

The chinesee clones are mostly if not all made of some alloy, most likely plated, so i take them apart and dry them thoroughly after each shave. the DX clone i have, had a slight imperfection from the casting which i took off with a fine file, but doesn't show any change or sign of deterioration even after 4 years. but i keep all my razors in drawers with silica gel pouches in them. Even my carbon steel straight razors didn't get a single speck of rust for months, without being oiled.

I think this might be the clone of the Feather SR, judging by the images, and my next purchase, maybe for black friday if available:

Agreed. For something as innocuous, mundane and super fun as this hobby of ours, I see no reason to wait if you have the gear already.

Yeah, but honestly, i simply can't afford the original right now... And if i didn't buy the DX clone, i wouldn't have saved up to buy the original... And even that one i bought used, via this forum, huge cheers to @Andy_Shaves :cheers:
