I used the AC Feather DX Kamisori for the first time this morning performing two passes and am quite pleased with the results. Is it better than the same blade in the SS? Maybe more experience will answer.
What I did enjoy was the non-Western type of handle. This is a new experience for me that went well which leads me to recommend trying one for anyone interested.

This isn't a personal blog for using these tools, but I have information that a certain member has the mother lode in route including one discontinued RBSR.
Today was my second use of the AC Feather DX Kamisori. I am not saying this holder is better than other AC Feather models as some review contend. I am saying that it is an effective and comfortable product quite capable to produce as good a result as one would ever want. I find the handle is easily turned to accommodate facial contours. It can be held a variety of ways, but not as locked in as with the Western handle.

Yep, I recently made a fun trade with Phil. A new Asylum Rx was my comeback. It’s my first AC safety razor. So far, I’ve used it only once with a Schick Proline. Today it’s loaded with a Kai guarded blade, and I expect to have a nice relaxing shave later this afternoon. Frankly I always avoided trying AC blades until recently, when I discovered my new shaving passion tangent in the Feather DX and SR holders. The most jarring observation I’ve noted is how monstrously wide AC blades appear in a safety razor as opposed to the folding razor. I’m optically put off by the phenomenon.
But to your question,,
I love Proline injector blades in my Asylum Injector razor. After dozens of shaves with almost the full gamut of currently available injector blades, during which time my opinion changed a few times, I have come to appreciate that the Prolines are as sharp as anything else, maybe sharper(?), idk, but oh my goodness, they are unquestionably the smoothest blade and razor combination I’ve ever experienced. Ever. That’s why I voted for injector blades in the poll, btw. The Prolines in the Asylum Injector could be my desert island for all eternity duo. Super efficient, super close, super smooth.

So obviously I figured, well yeah, the AC Prolines in the Asylum Rx will certainly be equally as sweet! Turns out it’s not the way it is in reality. Holy smokes, the combination was beyond efficient, it was downright aggressive! The AC blades are not the sweet equivalent of the injector blades. At least not in the Asylum Rx.
Which is rather interesting, being that I’m talking about two essentially identical razors, save for the width of the head. I told Phil of my experience. He confirmed that the shave geometry of the RX and Injector heads are the same. He thinks it’s the additional weight of the larger Rx head relative to the Injector, that accounts for the difference in aggression/face feel. While that hypothetically may be so, I don’t necessarily think it’s all that’s in play here. Side by side comparison showed that the Proline AC blades are wider than Proline Injector blades. But otoh, if indeed the razors’ shave geometries are identical, the blade stops should in theory prevent too much blade exposure, idk. Perhaps it is just the weight differential. Iirc the Injector weighs 99 grams, the Rx is 106 or 107 grams. So, maybe?
Last evening I tried swapping out the Proline with a Feather Professional Light Blade which is narrower than the Proline, thinking I’d get a mellower combination. Bizarrely, the Pro Light blade is incompatible with the Rx razor. The cutouts on the blade don’t align with the studs on the razor’s baseplate. Instead, I’ve loaded the Rx with the aforementioned Kai Pink guarded blade. They work great in the Feather razors, so I’m hoping to be delighted with them in the Rx.

Thanks, Alfie. That's so odd, don’t you think? Yet, that is the practical definition of proprietary.
You know what, Paul? I really am stumped as to why the two razors are so very different. I still think it has to have something to do with the blades. Phil has plainly stated that the razor heads’ geometry are completely identical with the exception of the different blade style and size of the head. How can the difference of just 7 grams account for such a huge difference in face feel? Is it possible that the AC blades don’t share the same grind profile as the injector version?
Yes, thanks Chuck. They arrived this afternoon. I will definitely try them when the Kai needs to be replaced.

Goodness, Jamie. They must by nearly unmanageable in the DX for mere mortals! I tried a Feather Professional Light in mine and that was trepidatious to say the least. A tip of the ol’ fedora to you, my man. The Pro blade is way out of my league, but I‘m pretty sure I’ll get there at some point.

The Asylum Ex is very aggressive. You should try to get hold of a Cobra Classic or a Hiram Commander (I especially like the 3-dot plate). Both retain the efficiency but are so smooth. Among my desert island razors

As i said in other threads, we are all different, both in skin/beard type and experience. @JamieM is like Master Yoda with straight razors, we're still Padawans. And as i said earlier, just to give a different example, the Feather Super Pro is great for me in the SS clone, but just a little bit too much in tge DX. The regular sized ones like the Kai Titan PINK or Schick Proline are perfect in the DX and a little bit less efficient in the SS clone in the sense that a BBS lasts a shorter amount of time.

Good to hear!! Id my recent inquiries are correct, the SR is between the SS and DX.
I think the Prolights are the way to go. I didn't know what made them light when I started in 2018. If my information is correct, the progression in blade exposure from less to more is Light, Professional, and Super Professional AC Feather blades.
@chazt will soon be able to give us a review of the Kai straight razor.
