Feather and Kai shaves

Fourth use of a Professional Super today with excellent results. I am getting spoiled with these blades.
Are they better than the feather professionals?
That's the only AC blades I've ever bought... because I considered myself a professional.
I can get 6 solid shaves out of a Chick injector blade but 5 on a feather professional is not great, just me trying to get my money's worth 😁

I am afraid I can't say. When I purchased the SS in 2018 I was only aware of the Pro Guards and Super Professionals. I went with the guarded blades for a while and then wanted to see if I could use the Supers. When I bought the DX it came with some Professionals, but I haven't used them.

I am up to seven shaves with the current Pro Super, the one before (9), and the one before (15). Like you, I get lots of shave with the injector blades but over the last two years the Schicks haven't lasted as long as before. I got some Supply and they do well.

I am going to begin to use the Personna Mini Shaper blades in my injector holders for a while. At $9 for 20, that is a good deal.

Fwiw, (not sure if it’s relevant to your posts, per se) Schick proline injector blades last me a good six shaves before I notice even a minuscule drop off in face feel or effectiveness. I usually change it after six or seven because as you know, life’s too short to shave with a dull blade. And why deal with that😕? However maybe it’ll be a good test to push the current blade in my ASW Injector, just because. I’m currently charting an AC Proline in my Kai. It’s at four shaves now and I‘m hoping to at least triple that number.

I should snag some prolines one day soon and give them a run.
Thanks for the reply!

I've seen the supply blades around but didn't know much about them.
The Chick blades I have are older ones and maybe I should pass on buying any of the newer ones. I might go the vintage route possibly, as well 🤔

Better is very subjective.

Some of us prefer Schick and Kai for added smoothness. I find the non-Feather AC blades more comfortable.

ProGuards really don't work for me at all.
Supers are wider and give you more blade exposure.

What I appreciate about AC Feather blades is we know their dimensions before making the purchase. @chazt posted a chart earlier. The Professional Super has the widest cutting area. Most consider the DX the most like a honed straight. Anyone who uses a honed straight successfully should be able to use a DX with a Prof Super. However, I can achieve the same result with a Pro Super blade in either the SS or DX.

Also, using a Feather in a Feather holder has worked well. If I ever obtain a Kai, I will use Kai blades. If I ever find an affordable Schick Pro Line shavette, I will try again to use a Schick Proline blade.

I just don't think you can judge a holder using a blade that was not designed to work in that holder whether the holder grips the blade or not. Also, trying to use a holder where the blade is barely exposed isn't effective.

I'm actually considering a purchase of proshave Japanese blades made by a company called Nikky. $11-12 for 24 blades, same size but a bit different shape to the standard AC blades we know. They have a holder as well, $50-ish and looks nice but it's designed for right hand only so i'll skip that. But i'll try the blade in all of my holders.

I offered some unsolicited advice to @chazt yesterday. I recommended he only perform two passes. Then, over time, learn how to make the most of those two passes. I think this might reduce irritation. I practiced what I preached this morning and am pleased, but I know more is possible.

Thanks for letting us know about a new holder. :okay:

I am able to purchase 20 Professional Supers for $16.

I have to admit I can never go beyond 2 passes with any shavette/RBSR. I get less irritation and redness on my neck than with a DE razor or a GEM. I've always assumed that's down to less passes. I only shave where I absolutely need to with a shavette/RBSR. It's strange really as you would assume irritation would be higher but as a newer wet shaver, making me do less shaving actually helps. Weird.

One pass alone usually gets the job done with the correct angle ✅

I find a sharp smooth blade to leave my skin feeling better.

Ugh.. I had flu and covid vaccines yesterday, one in each arm. What with that and the right rotator cuff all wonky, I can’t use my arms well enough for a RBSR shave. There’s no way(!) I’m going to put an open blade on my face when I’m not at 100% mobility.

Interestingly I find it’s not so much about irritation as it is the potential for injury. Frankly, the post shave feel of three passes with an AC blade in these RBSRs is not very much different from three passes with any other format. What I do find however, is the third pass is the one that can lead to unnecessary nicks and nasties - likely because I’m trying to shave itty bitty whiskers that have already succumbed to the almighty blade. I guess that’s good enough reason to stop at two passes.

Charlie, I have a rotator cuff injury, I was playing with my grandsons, throwing ball ,mid August. Now taking anti inflammatory tabs, rubbing ibuprofen gel into shoulder and wearing a shoulder brace. Agony for sure, sympathy your way mate 😊
