Extrò Cosmesi: T Ultra Benz

The project by Extrò Cosmesi is interesting.
Bring back an icon of the past.

The Benz "Ultra Benz" was a giant.
Built by Paolo Baenzinger in Bologna in the 1930s.
It had an exaggerated gap of 1.57mm, but with neutral exposure.

The homage of the turiner Donato Ciniello faithfully reproduces it.
At least in geometry, and updates some details to modern canons.

Is that top cap made from 3D printed metal or Damascus steel?

The Extro webside state's that the Head is made of 17-4 steel, the handle and stand of 303.
But i see what you mean, on the promo pictures, it does look like damascus steel.

I have to say, it's not that often a head design is attracting me so much.
The last razor i found that fascinating was the Blackbird.
I have to admit the handle looks a little, overused, since it looks like a regular bulldog handle.
But looking at some pictures of the original Benz, it's just accurate

This new T Ultra Benz is really good looking razor.
Shame it's rather expensive at 250€.

I should have watched the Video on there homepage, I suppose (or read it's title 😅). Thank you for this, it's very interesting what modern metal processing is capable of today.

Since I was on their homepage, I thought why not write them and ask for a release date.
A very nice chap answered me and said that this patch will be finished soon, and there will be another in September.
No definite date, but soon 🤷

Extro T Ultra Benz serial number #087
A new day, a new mail call.

So far I have read almost nothing about this razor anywhere - there are a handful of Italian videos on YouTube that couldn't tell me much - and the forums are empty too.
As always, I went for it because the design really appealed to me.

The T Ultra Benz is a homage to Paolo Baenzinger's Ultra Benz from the 30s and 40s. Brought into modern times in terms of the width of the head, but similar to the original in terms of geometry/design.
-
It costs €250 and production takes about 4 weeks from the time of ordering - for me it was now about 5. It is made in small batches which sold out relatively quickly last time.
The razor comes with a shaving soap/aftershave set "1923" which offers a wonderful cologne/spicy scent in the usual Extro quality. A fragrance from the last century.
Top notes: orange blossom, rose, pine fougere
Heart notes: lavender, petit grain, patchouly
Base notes: musk, neroli
Delicious. Very intensive.

Everything comes in tin cans that look very stylish when you first look at them, they come with letters describing the product in Italian - great idea.
It wasn't just the design and geometry that appealed to me (1.57mm gap with neutral blade exposure) but also the manufacturing.
The handle (303 steel 45 g 90 mm) is hollow with a satin look - reminds me of standard Razorock, Ikon, Gillette or other older planes - with an Extro inscription.
The head comes from a 3D printer 17-4 stainless steel and weighs 30grams. The safetybar is polished to a shine and feels great on the skin. The head and the rest of the plate come with their 3D printed patterns or whatever you want to call it. Almost looks like Damascus steel. Beautiful! There is also a stylish shaving stand.
So dear people - for the money you get more than you first thought and in first class quality from Italy.

The shave went spectacularly. It was really exciting and thanks to the geometry it was something completely different than what I've been using lately and don't actually have. Blade sits firmly in the head with a good bend. The Nacet (now the standard blade) performed very well. You can feel the blade, it is also arranged on the more aggressive side and makes no compromises, but despite the rough feeling it is gentle on the skin. The blade doesn't have as much clamping as others because there is simply no support on the underside - but this gives you a great sound, foam that literally just flows through and joy. The angle is actually given naturally by the shape of the safety bar. You definitely have to pay attention to him but you will be rewarded with a great BBS. Definitely not for R89 fans or friends of gentle razors. He's really going for it. It sounds a bit contradictory, but the blade on the skin sounds harsh, but leaves the skin without redness/cuts and wonderfully smooth.

Have a nice day!

They’re available again, this time with a choice of handle, really like the look with the shorter horn handle…
Now I'm just going to a quiet room to meditate a little bit and see if I can get this thought out of my head!
