Everyday Razor Maintenance

Hey folks!

What’s your daily maintenance regime with your razor after a shave.

A bit back, I posted about tea stain spots I was getting on my Mongoose. I now rinse, soap and dry everything (blade included) after each shave.

I’ve just bagged an Asylum RX and it’s on the way, and don’t want to go the same way and get those damn brown spots. I plan to carry on the drying regime above.

It would be good to hear what others regimes ar though - curiosity mainly, but also to see if I can learn a new method and dare I say it, a slightly lazier one!

My recommendation to avoid tea staining on stainless steel razors is to either fully disassemble the razor or simply loosen the handle a few turns to allow the head to dry between shaves. On DEs the loosening works perfectly as the curved blade forces the head components apart. I can’t comment on how well it works on an AC, but it seems to be fine with GEMs. I think washing with soap after every shave is overkill. All you need to do is allow airflow into the head to prevent the blade from rusting and transferring that to the razor. Cleaning is not necessary or helpful for this.

If i use a chrome plated or ss razor i take it apart, remove the blade and allow it to air dry, if brass i still take it apart and let it air dry for my charcoal, however i love the finish on my karve and i take that apart and use kitchen paper to really make sure it's dry, then store in a dry area, touch wood its worked so far.

Odd your goose would tea stain unless it's from the blade itself.

The only one I do anything special with is my PILS and that’s because the design of the head can trap water inside. After use I just loosen the handle slightly, blow through the head, then leave it loose to dry.

I'm in the habit of taking the razor apart and washing/drying everything, then leaving it separate.

Razor has remained spotless thus far

I must be lucky because I've never experienced tea stain. Probably a combination of good water and living in the dry tropics. I do however loosen everything right off after the shave, give everything a good rinse and leave to air.
