I just tried ETHOS lisse collection shaving soap for the first time yesterday after reading posts about those soaps by those who like them. After reading a lot of positive reports I was eager to see if I would like them as well. Ordering from the maker, Frank Lipani, was done through email and PayPal as he has not gotten his website off the ground yet the last time I communicated with him.
Firstly the packaging - it comes in a good quality plastic jar with a grey lid. The labels were applied slightly askew but that is minor.
A small plastic scoop is provided to scoop out the soap. A couple of aftershave samples were provided.
The soap is sort of cream coloured and fairly soft.
The ease of lathering is one of the best I have experienced. Not quite as easy as TOBS Sandalwood cream but nothing I have found is as easy to lather anyway.
The lather seems protective and slick though I was using the First Lather pre shave stick made by the same manufacturer so that may have skewed the results more favourably. I will try my next shave without the pre shave stick to see if t is the same without it.
The best part of the STHOS lisse soap is the scent - easily the best scent I have experienced from.shaving soap.. it is rich in lavender scent and I am given to understand it is based on essential oils. Unlike the case wth many American artisanal shaving soaps, my skin was not irritated by it at all.
The post shave was also nice on the skin and the soap washes and rinses off more easily compared to some other top soaps. It feels lighter and less oily as well.
In conclusion ETHOS has vaulted to the top of my personal list of favourite shaving soaps exceeding dven declaration grooming milksteak and wholly kaw siero bases. I will be trying their Succes collection soap next which is a pineapple rich scent profile.
