English Stones

I appreciate the welcome but I am afraid I would be a source of continuos disappointment. I own but two natural stones, and 95% of the time I only use my Escher. I do love to read about them, but I'd much rather keep the variables in check and get proficient with one stone only.

Will stick around though, definitely.

No disappointments here, Sir... And, knowing one stone inside and out is probably not a bad solution!

Well, at the moment I am quite happy with my edges, barring the ocasional mishap, so no need to muck about too much, even though I do find it very interesting. I guess the razors themselves are a deep enough rabbit hole for me to be thinking about going down yet another one.

If you're only going to have a couple then might as well make them the best! If I'm buggering around with a new stone and can't figure out how it works best, or just generally having a honing 'off day': a good Thuri is what I'll always fall back on for pristine and perfect edges every time.

IMO - none of my finishing stones I've posted in these threads will produce an edge that's 'better' than a good Thuringian edge. Some of them might give one that's as good but slightly different, but I wouldn't say any are noticeably keener. And they're almost all a bit more difficult to use.

I am enjoying my CF but a good Thuri remains on my to-do list. I haven't yet learned how to find a good'n but I'll stumble into one eventually.

Here's my CF. Only finisher I ever use, although I recently was gifted a really nice Latneuses that I'll try on my next straight.
Charnley Forest really gives a great edge, that might bite a bit on the first shave, but really delivers terrific haircutting ever after.
