Edwin Jagger DE86

Recently I purchased an Edwin Jagger DE86 razor. I am very happy and impressed by the way it performs. It is on the mild side and I NEVER get nicked using it. It is quite a comfortable razor! So far I’ve used Astra SPs and Gillette Yellows in it with great results. Next blade I plan on using in it will be the GSB. Then I will experiment with all of my different blades in it. Who else here is a fan of and uses this razor frequently? As for me I may sell most of my other razors except for a couple ...Yes This razor is a winner!

It was my second razor and I still use it regularly. My favourite blade is the Gillette Yellow, gives a great shave. I upgraded the handle on mine and use a stainless steel one to give it some extra weight.

They’re great, there’s a reason they get recommended so often. I still have mine but TBH I don’t use much other than my AS-D2.

There's insufficient enough blade clamp in EJ closed comb heads for me unless I go bonkers on prep, which I usually don't have the time for, so mine is going to be for sale, likely later this month.

I have two EJ heads with different handles, which make them perform differently. My favourite is the long lined handle, and then there is the Barley Chatsworth. The lined handle is much smoother than the Barley Chatsworth, but no razor can come close to the aesthetics of the Chatsworth.

Close, but no cigar. The Barley Chatsworth evokes a sense of a by-gone era which probably never existed (except for a Royal few). The balance of the Chatsworth leaves a fair bit to be desired; the shave itself can be problematic if your technique is not spot-on, but damn, it's a good-looking razor!

So much negativity, You are comparing a $120 razor to a $35 razor. Lets race your VW bug against my McLaren .

I did not buy an 86, I went for the 89L, longer handle, then in 2014 they came out with a special edition knurled model, the handle was even shorter.
It was a perfect fit. 2 of the 3 came with Feather blades.
I have used them for over a decade now. I have tried others, the only one that comes close is Nacet blades.
The cost difference is Feathers at $23, Nacets at $12 per 100.

Depending on your beard, the main difference between the two is the Feathers with on glide protection (thank you 1912) will heat up your skin.
The Nacets are as cool as the Siberian spring.
