Review & Discussion - PAA Ascension

This is a fantastic thread! Outside of some PAA related Social media groups, I am continually surprised how little love this razor receives. I think many shavers overlook it either because they see Phoenix Shaving as a soap maker who tinkers in other stuff (like razors) or they think the adjustability is only a gimmick. They are missing out on an awesome razor at a great value!

I used to use the same method with a slim twist in my teen years when i felt i needed some more bite i opened it a tiny bit I had to be careful tho as doing that with a TTO isn't really a smart thing to do but i used to manage well back in the day I also used the slim twist with an angle wich I found even more efficient like today's slants so to say

A real smooth shave this evening (yesterday evening). The PAA Ascension is no pretender providing solid efficient shaves with equal comfort and smoothness. Not much talk about this razor but, make no mistake about it, it’s a player in the whisker reducing ring.

A really, really good razor. The Copper can deal some whisker decapitating BBS shaves. Truly a modern day open comb (dual) that flys well under the radar, stealth mode.

It’s not so much under the radar as limited distribution (at least in the uk) and then completely unavailable. I’d have bought one if it was still available.

What's the best angle with this razor?

They're all out of stock at the moment, but the website says more copper razors are coming. That's great news.

I tend to shave steep.

Happy shaves,

Jim

I think you just missed a recent batch of the new SS version that replace the older one that had hovered around for a few weeks.
The only difference seems to be the handle.

I prefer shallow, but the razor has a fairly wide range of usable angles.

There's quite a bend in the blade with this razor, so even steep still feels pretty shallow.

Thank you, gentlemen.

It's a razor I've long considered. I've signed up to be notified when the copper is back in stock.

I'll probably get a shorter aftermarket handle for it. (But, not before I've tried the PAA handle first.)

Happy shaves,

Jim

You bring up a good point with limited availability and the scarcity of it being available for purchase overseas. Great counter that I hadn't considered. :okay:

^^^^^^^ What he said, Jim.

I tend to angle it towards the cap but, it does offer up some range on an angle of attack especially with the twist adjustment option from the extreme bend the head offers. A very capable razor that's not close to its older sibling, the ferocious EVO DOC SS. That version is very blade forward with very little blade bend but, it cuts through whiskers like the famed Guillotine during the French Revolution.....
