These are my latest two stones that are "new", not vintage. Grate finishers.

Unusual pattern and they look great! Did they come with a vein name? Do they have backing? Tell us more please.

The large one is backed with a La Lune. It is an ald stock Borton Rox Les lat i think.

Haven't tried the La Lune yet, how do you like it? I've been staring at them on 1Stone but I need to restrict my time on that site, their coticule and vintage razor offerings are tooooo tempting

I have not made up my mind about the La lune yet. If i did not have jnat's that are grate i might think it is a grate stone, but i do. It does not work the same way as a jnat. Finishing on water seem to set the edge back, and finishing on slurry is not enough either. It seems to need some sort of lubrication, like oil or soap to shine as a finisher. I have a blue/black La lune that is harder and finer then the purple one. It also cost a fraction of the price.

Vintage coticules aren't any different then those mined today. I order mine directly from Ardennes, letting them know specifically what I am looking for and they pick one out with those characteristics after testing it. And, I don't use any slurry.

R181 is a grumpy old man, he just randomly reports people. He lives in Canada and there's nothing else to do there.

My recommendation for anyone looking for a good coticule for their razors is to message Ardennes directly and let them know that they are looking for a coticule with the characteristics they are seeking (for example; fast or a good finisher, etc) and they will pick one out and test it for those characteristics. I ordered two coticules that way (a la dressante and a les lateneuses both 6x2) and they make up my 2 stone progression (with no slurry necessary) that I use to maintain my razors.
