you're older gentleman 60+ years maybe you shouldn't spend much on it.
Why, because I'm gonna die?

Young folks die every day.

On a different note, a brush to soap your face can only cost you $200+ if someone is ripping you a new one.

Would you spend $200+ for a toothbrush???

Yes, @TobyC you are going to die.

I quality toothbrush costs $4 and should be replaced every three months or $16 per year. In 20 years, that's $320.

A Simpson badger or boar properly maintained can last 20 plus years. :okay: Perhaps getting "ripped a new one" is okay if it's a better one.

Respectfully disagree. You’re paying for the brush maker’s time and expertise. And in most cases, likely a much higher quality knot that’s been the subject of theoretically much tighter quality control.

It’s just like guitars. You can certainly make music on a less expensive instrument, but the more expensive instrument is always going to be better built and will always last longer.

The but is with the Gitar if you have no skill you cannot make great music without talent.

So apply the analogy to cars. You can drive a Kia or a Rolls Royce. Either will get you where you want to go. The Rolls will get you there in style. And the trophy wife will drive home with the dude in the backseat.

You've skipped the very first sentence I wrote and pulled the one out of context. I was speaking generally and just gave two examples why you shouldn't spend much and after that an example why you should.

Classic wet shaving has a lot in common with a hobby, and here the question arises: how much are you willing to spend on a hobby (or any part of it?) After all, some people collect razors, others brushes, blades, or soap, and others shave with simplest disposable razor, but can buy a rare coin, postage stamp, or tin soldiers for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

The argument over expensive badger vs cheap boar, EJ 89 vs stainless exotica, Proraso vs MdC etc has certainly been around since I found my first shaving forum and has probably been around for as long as shaving fora have been a thing.

It's just VI vs EMACS all over again.
