Brass General SE from Colonial Razors

Very quick first impression with my first shave using the Brass General. It is an elegant and classic looking design. The quality and looks on mine are excellent, with just the slightest patina at the tip of the handle. Substantial feeling razor, perhaps the heaviest that I own but still feels well balanced in the hand and the handle was a non-issue during my shave. The blade is held in firmly between the top cap and base plate, with the blade fitting in perfectly within the 2 raised posts. Removal of the blade was effortless, no sticking of any kind. The shave was just amazing, but I will admit it was awkward at first. I had a good day and a half of stubble, so when I made the initial pass, I heard nothing. Yes, almost total silence. I gauge practically all my shaves with some sort of audible feedback. I stopped and looked, started again and the same thing, just the slightest sound that the razor was removing the lather, but the hair was going along with it. It was odd, but I continued and gave myself one of the most smoothest but wickedly efficient shaves in almost total silence. As quiet as my OneBlade, if not quieter. A 2 pass with minor touch ups and a solid BBS shave first time out with a new razor.

I said no, no noise and no blade feel. This is not right, aggressive and blade feel is my middle name. I looked myself in the mirror, scratched my head, nodded my head in defiance and continued my post shave routine. It was an amazing shave. My Lady walked in, grabbed my mug and planted one on each side and said "Mahvelous Babe, dinner is ready". She ticked me off. How can this razor shave this good with no blade feel or audible feedback? I went right to my bar nook, pulled out a bottle of Johhny Walker Green and poured me a stiff one, 2 rocks. Threw it down as fast as I poured it. I could not keep my hands off my face. I sat at the table, finished my dinner and didn't say one damn word. But she did, she knew my mind was pondering on my shave. "Admit it honey, that was a fine shave by a fine looking razor." Damn you Woman! I got up, poured myself another 3 finger high, 2 rocks and went to the living room and turned on the entertainment box. Few minutes later, she came on over cozied up on me and said "love the feel of your face and the smell of a clean shaven man." I gave up. Finished my glass about 40 minutes later and looked at my lady right in the eyes. I said "girl, you feeling frisky? Cause I am". She didn't skip a beat and answered "always".

There you have it. That's why I shave. And the Colonial Brass General does it in fine style for me and for the Lady of the house. Do I recommend it? Absolutely. Will it make the Lady of the house or significant other in your life any friskier? Don't know. But it sure won't hurt to find out.....

Great review and my first shave with the Brass was very similar... minus the lady of the house discussing the relative merits of my shave, or the friskiness! :D

@Blackmass We plan to go back to aluminum but at a price increase. We originally planned on going to stainless at our current machine shop, but that isn't going to happen now. Stainless will happen at some time in the future, but not as we originally planned.

Good news - will the black aluminium be available as a head only purchase?

Stainless will happen but at a different shop in the near future. More will come on what we plan to do with heavier versions of our razors.

So glad to hear you are enjoying your black aluminum version!
Sorry to trouble you again. Will the design and efficiently stay the same with the next batch of aluminium ones?
