Best DE blades

My favorite blades, in the rough order of perference

Astra SP (Russian) - not the sharpest or the smoothest, but sharp, smooth, cheap, and with a very reliable performance. The blade I use to test new razors, because I know exactly how it performs.

Feathers - very sharp, very smooth, now also pretty expensive. Luckily I bought 200 before the price doubled.

Bic Chrome Platinum - excellent blades that I may switch to once I run out of Feathers. I don't see a huge difference in performance, and they are a lot cheaper. Had a few left from my very first sample blade pack bought five years ago, used one recently & I forgot just how great they were. Back then I was getting overwhelmed with all the different blades & decided to stick with Astras until I figure out the wet shaving well enough. I would've stocked up on Bics had I re-discovered them earlier, but I have enough Feathers and Perma-Sharps now to last me a couple years.

Astra SP (Indian) - they shave just as well as the Russian ones, but the longevity may be a bit less. Or not. Still figuring them out.

Perma-Sharps - good, really sharp blades, but Feathers and Bics feel a little smoother.

Right now, I am mostly stocked with Astras (both Russian and Indian), Feathers, and Perma-Sharps, in that order.

My tried and true favorites are:

Polsilver Super Iridium
Gillette Silver Blue
Voskhod

I've also recently tried Gillette 7 O'Clock and so far seem to like them. But I need more time with them.

Still searching for Grail, to use forever.
Well, if you're waiting for that Holy Grail blade, count on one thing happening: You will find your Holy Grail blade and soon thereafter it will be discontinued. Happens to me with everything. Mitchell's Wool Fat. Haslinger Schafmilch (tallow version). Polsilver Super Iridium. And others. It never fails. As soon as I get used to something and think my search is over, BOOM, it's discontinued.

Gillette 7 O'Clock Blues. The real ones. Really good blades. I have a stash.

Wilkinson Sword "New" from the 70s. Same blade as the Light Brigade. Really good, but over-hyped IMO.

Personna 74. Best blade, hands down, but value for money? No way. I have a significant stash, but don't get around to using them.

A good, decent, all-rounder? Astra Super Platinum. No complaints.

Some blades have an undeserved reputation. I never found Wizamet Polsilvers all that good, for example.

No such thing as “best.” It’s all just what you like. I use six in a loose rotation. I like Israeli Personnas most of all. For me they’re just sharp enough, very smooth, and predictable. I also like Lab Blues and Med Preps. They’re sharper than IPs, and generally as smooth. My favorite Gillette blades are the Russian made Platinums and Minoras. Rounding out my rotation are the current Wilkinson Sword blades coming out of Germany. They remind me of Lab Blues.
