The Rx has been delivered to one of my neighbours. I thought I'd record my thoughts on this razor before I even see it, and then compare once I've used it daily for a weeks.
I've been very excited about this razor since I first saw the concept some 2 years ago: Cobra head profile with the blade clamping of the Mongoose - best of both worlds, as I see it. However, I didn't buy one when it finally became available because of some severe reservations:

- The aesthetics. To my eyes, and without seeing it in the flesh, it's a mish-mash of different themes and features which don't gel together. The handle especially is a real dogs-dinner.
- The weight. I don't like heavy razors, and this appears to be very head heavy and bulky.
- The price. It's a lot of money, however, if it's a perfect razor I'd find the money somehow. And last but not least;
- The shave. It seems to polarize users significantly. Over on TSN (home of the owner oft he Rx) the pass-around users have been polite but about 50% aren't massively enthused about it. That says a lot to me and I'm not willing to drop that much money untried.

Hi, for some reson I've been struggling to write a full review for this razor, maybe because I have discussed it quite a bit in a few pm conversations.
The asylum reached me in good condition, no major scratches or dings but the head does rattle when no blade is loaded, no problem with a blade in situ though.
I personally love the look and the wieght of this razor, the design allows for a slender, low profile, sleek look but I think it's an over engineered solution to a nonexistent problem. More conventional, three piece designs work better in my opinion.
The razor is very aptly named because as soon as you load it up and see the amount of blade on display, it looks insane.
I had not used an AC type razor before the asylum, I loaded a feather pro, the head is huge compared to a DE, so it was with some trepidation I started my first pass. I found that the shaving angle was somewhat different, more exaggerated, to what I'm used to but it's not problematic and the correct angle was easily found. After the first stroke I felt my confidence rise there was no need to concerned, I had intended to go for a two pass shave but after that first stroke there was no reason not to have my usual three passes. This is an aggressive razor but not as aggressive as I thought it was going to be. I ended with a BBS shave with no nicks, weepers or redness but the aftershave had me dancing like a drunken uncle at a wedding and screaming like a baby girl, maybe a bit more aggressive than I thought.
I just have to mention here that AC blade are not as smooth as my top DE blades, the first pass was a little "tuggy" compared to what I would normally expect with three days growth.
What I particularly liked was the XTG pass, probably due to the AC blades extra thickness, the XTG pass below my jawline was very comfortable indeed.
This is a razor that has divided opinion and I was quite prepared to dislike it but I don't, I throughly enjoyed my time with the asylum BUT not enough to buy one at the overall cost to us here in the UK. If I ever come across one at the right price then I might pull the trigger.
Since my outing with the asylum I have now used a colonial General, many, many thanks to @Acer89 for loaning me a number of very fine razors, all I will say is that the General is on my shopping list the asylum is not. Both gave me genuine BBS results but the General is mild enough to use as a daily shaver.

A nice write up thanks Shaun. You comments echo my sentiments. It's such a pity as the Asylum is indeed a looker but that's where my admiration ended. For tough dense stubble and infrequent shaving maybe but for daily shaving no way. I escaped the nicks and weepers but my face felt peeled and tender post use.

Nice summation... It will never be on my wishlist either.. When there are razors like the Hawk (poor quality, but shaves so well) and the General, there is no place for the Asylum...

4th shave (2x Kai Mild and 2x Feather Pro)
Lots of drag and lots of blade feel (and not in a good way) and I'm really not using any pressure.
Anyone solved either of those issues during their tenure with this razor?
Yesterday I used a Weber & Super Silver Gillette and it was a wonderful shave (same soap)
