Welcome. By the way, obviously I don't know your background (you might be from the UK and living in the Netherlands) but your command of English is better than most of us who live in the UK (and certainly better than mine :) )

:thankyou: Thank you for your kind words, Stan! I am Dutch born & bred, but I have visited the UK regularly since I was 6 or thereabouts. I love the landscape, the people and the language. :)

Heartening and reassuring words, macaronus. Thanks for the reply.

Very often, when encountering a visitor obviously from afar, I get an uncomfortable feeling of discomfort if I think they may not be receiving a respectable reception or might be going to all the wrong places during their stay. Maybe I'm guilty of saying there are, in fact, right and wrong places to visit...who am I to say? But we all know there are some gorgeous places throughout the UK that make your jaw drop. Plymouth isn't, generally, actually jaw droppingly beautiful but it sits with areas of lovely moor and coast almost within a stone's throw....but on a Saturday night there are also parts of Plymouth city that have slightly less visual appeal and I, sort of, hope that a visitor with only a week or so at their disposal gets to see the nice bits and misses the other bits. I spent much of my life working and living in and around London and the contrasts are quite remarkable...and as time passes areas become unrecognizable following "development". The docks of east and south London are an obvious example - not saying the East End was glorious in the fifties, it wasn't, and there was desperate poverty in much of the area. Fotunately there aren't so many kids with empty bellies and no shoes in Docklands nowadays. :)

I ought to stop there :)

Good wishes.

So many familiar faces :)
@macaronus Hello, I'm currently based in the Netherlands, perhaps we should arrange an Against the Grain outing to the Schorem Barbers :D
That's a possibility, although I've been there and I must confess I was a bit underwhelmed by the shave quality. But we might set up a test panel and visit all Dutch barbers? Now that might be a great road trip!
