2026 World Cup

Last year I found an FIFA approved ball at Dicks Sporting Goods for $19. It turned out to be a 2025 game ball.

The reason I got the foil version is because the local leagues are using a version of the current World Cup ball. Since players bring their own equipment to practice, I thought it better not to have to hunt a ball after practice. Plus, the foil looks cool.

I'd like to hear from you all that consider Futol your national past time. How is the World Cup going for your teams or your perspective on anything related to the games? This helps be better understand the sport.

England as always are up and down in fits and starts. If you give it a few games, we'll go out on penalties or with some lacklustre performance 😂. You can bet your house on it 👍

The tournament this time for me has been a huge expansion in teams with big mismatches between teams which has brought more goals and not some great improvement in play or excitement. The groups are almost pointless now and progressing through them much easier. Just a personal opinion.

Overall, the whole thing feels, without being too cynical, like a big FIFA money grab - cost of tickets, water ad breaks etc.

Some folk I know have loved every minute of it though. It's just my personal view.

Going out on penalties means to many yellow cards given resulting in a loss of players who can no longer compete? If so, I've seen lots of obvious fouls like holding, pushing down, tripping, and stepping on feet. I ask myself if the coach is encouraging this behavior to prevent a score or to take out a player?

I enjoy two players going after the ball aggressively and displaying foot skills. I also enjoy the passing and watching the plays develop and then when you think all it lost the ball finds its way to the outside with a waiting striker sending it home.

The game goes to penalties after extra time when neither side can win. That's when England always go out. It's traditional  The nation holds its breath as we stand on the precipice of greatness - and then we lose and go home 😂

Close play is always exciting to watch and some teams are better at it than others. Those are the teams you can really enjoy. Some teams can be like watching paint dry and just end up passing the ball backwards or sidewards.

I think it's not really in their interest to foul and get booked and suspended as some of these players have waited a lifetime to play in a WC tournament and it might be their only one. Some teams are less disciplined and that always hurts them especially when the tiredness kicks in with the heat.

My personal opinions only of course.

As for cynical fouls, this is my all time favourite. He knew what needed to be done and took the red card for it. This lad was a class act. Could use both feet and cost peanuts to buy from some Norwegian 3rd Division team. A nice lad too...

Hang on lemme find it...
