As a soccer novice, I notice the glory goes to the one who scores the goal. but not to the one who kicks it to them so that they only need to tap it in. I do appreciate that the one scoring must be in place to make the goal. Messi does seem different and more active than the other top scorers. I also notice he is not a selfish player and makes good passes to his teammates.

It’s called an assist and there is some recognition for it. It does count in statistics.

I really don’t like these “hydration breaks”. They break up the flow of the game and are a barely disguised attempt to squeeze in yet more advertising. Luckily we don’t have to suffer the ads, even on ITV.

From what I remember when I visited the US, their TV seemed to consist of as much advertising as actual programmes.

And then there is Messi's commercial suggesting he is running on batteries. First thoughts were how that idea germinated.

I keep thinking some of these teams represent very poor nations. I find myself pulling for them. How does Haiti even field a team. Money must come from somewhere.

Baseball is no longer hits, bunts, base stealing or as we call it "small ball", but very large guys with bat head speed capable of sending the ball into the upper deck if they can hit a 105mph fast ball. American football is brutal that leaves it's players to dies a slow painful death in later years. College football is a sham.

This leads me to appreciate the simplicity of a ball that requires using only the feet to propel it into a net of some fabrication that normal sized people can play.

I watch Amazon Prime channels with some European channels purchased extra. I don't watch advertising expect on YouTube and have been watching the matches in an abbreviated version. The water breaks are not a part of the highlights...LOL!!
