18mm Manchurian White?

Not sure if this should go in 'General Shaving' or 'Shave Brush' thread..duh!

I'm working on a new re-knotting project.

Replacing the knot in this dinky but heavy ceramic possibly porcelain handle. I can't afford another shavemac and I already have a 20mm D01 2 band on order so I'm wondering where I can buy an 18mm Manchurian white without breaking the bank?

Any ideas please?

18mm is a very small knot, especially in Manchurian. Can you open it up to 19mm and get a TGN Mtn. white? TGN knots are pure luxury if you like killer badgers.

Possibly but being ceramic I'm just not sure. That is an option to consider though. Thanks
Just looked at the TGN HMW: Base plug approx 19mm Hair Tuff above plug approx 22mm Loft approx 65mm

I very much doubt a 19mm will fit given the 22mm diameter above the glue plug. I won't be able to get in down deep enough.

Oh, that is a kerfuffle. At 65mm loft, it would be a folding brush and with such a small knot, likely to have more flop than Leicester City FC.

I have no experience with such a challenging re-knot and the only choice that I can come up with is TGN Silvertip Grade A badger knot 18mm. I would choose that quality over a ebay sourced Manchurian since on ebay you could call a Q-tip a Manchurian knot!

I have no experience with such a challenging re-knot and the only choice that I can come up with is TGN Silvertip Grade A badger knot 18mm. I would choose that quality over a ebay sourced Manchurian since on ebay you could call a Q-tip a Manchurian knot!

You are of course correct. I'm expecting far too much from such a tiny brush. I need to rethink my knot type. I'm liking the TGN Grade A but the $15 shipping plus additional duty and taxes for a $22 product makes me wonder should I go Chinese. Thank you for making me see sense.

Up late! Night shift, insomnia or have you had the hobby get the better of you, James?

How about trying a boar? You will need some serious stiffness in the hairs and the knot if you can't bore deeper. The other option would be an incredibly dense knot, but quite the crux to find one ready-made.

I've bought quite a few TGN knots and have never yet paid any tax or charges on one.

Hi @halvor. I am a bit of a night owl. Late night thinking is when I come up with crazy ideas.

I do own a couple of boar brushes and love em for working up a lather from a hard soap. 18mm is tiny so I'll be trying to open up the hole later this morning. If I extend the hole to 19mm it'll widen up my choice. Alternatively, I'll hunt around for a dense knot.

I think that ceramic or porcelain will abrade easily enough with the Dremel type tool shown in the photo. The skill will be in keeping the hole round - so very gentle pressure would be my advice and let the tool do the work.
