Blackland Vector SE razor (AC type)

I'll have my 3rd shave in a row with the Vector tomorrow, which must some kind of record. Will change the handle to a custom titanium. The original is nice and grippy, I have a feeling we may not need knurling and more skin contact leads to a better grip.

Shave 4 with a Feather Pro and even smoother than the last two shaves. I think I'll enjoy the slightly more aggressive Schick Proline tomorrow. I also plan to polish the razor simply because I like shiny razors and it'll also take the edge off the sharp front corners (I just need to get around to it...)

This morning was the third shave with the Vector, this time with the slim titanium handle (pic above). Immediately the shave felt softer with less blade feel, so mid-shave I switched handles back to the original Vector handle and the blade feel returned. I prefer blade feel.

I've ordered a pack of Feather Super Pros from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow. Btw feather SE blades are very inexpensive in Japan.

A lovely shave with the Schick Proline this morning. Initially there was a fair amount of drag on the first few passes which significantly reduced as the shave progressed, however, some drag was always present during the shave. But the results are stunning: very smooth and comfortable.

Got the dreaded card. Paid the ransoms fee, and I have the baby at home.

First shave last night. Bought some prolines ready. I’ve never used them before always going for the feather pros but given the almost wholly positive reviews I thought I’d give them a whirl.

Easily one of the best shaves I’ve had in a long time. So smooth.

The razor is really nimble. The angle came really easily with zero learning. I think I can dial it in a bit more but for the first shave I was impressed how natural it came. My SE experience is with a mongoose and asylum rx, and while I like the blade feel from those razors, I’ve learned that that does not equal better/closer shaves. The vector feels mild, almost too mild, but it’s surprisingly efficient.

I really like this razor. My first Blackland outing and Shane has done a great job with this. Thanks Shane!

Congratulations, Mike.
It's my first time with Prolines and they work brilliantly in the Vector, for me.
This morning, I tried a Kai Protouch that was kindly sent to me by Wayne @Wayne. It tugged on three days' growth and far from smooth. Second pass was smoother, but still less so than the Proline.

Second shave with the Vector paired with a Schick Proline. A mild feel to the shave and efficient enough to chase the whiskers away in a 2.5 pass shave. No weepers or irritation
A very comfortable shave, the Vector is everything I hoped it would be.

Congratulations Shane, it's a winner for me.......Superb! !!!.

@Nishy @Blackland Razors

I’ve been using both the General and the Vector for the last two weeks: several uses of the Vector on its own to get used to it, a single use of the General to remind me just how competent and complete that razor is, and five shaves with one razor on one side of my face and the other on the other side. All shaves have been with the Schick Proline blade.

Firstly, the general is a damn good razor, its comfortable and I get close shaves from it. I bought the head only and ideally would have preferred the black to pair it with my titanium Stork 90mm handle but only the silver was available. However, in my opinion it’s a bit vanilla in both looks and ‘feel’: for me it’s the Toyota Camry of the razor world. If I wanted a close & comfortable shave without paying attention I‘d choose the Aluminium General.

Full disclosure: I really want to love this Vector. Aesthetically I’ve always liked Blackland razors (with the sole exception of the Dart handle which I personally think is too busy) and the Vector is no different – I think it looks great (but not quite as good as the Blackbird.) But I’ve tried to remain completely non-partisan.

In the hand the Vector feels like a heavy scalpel. The handle ‘waist’ is perfectly placed; the long, thin, elegant neck gives the handle great balance; the length fits my medium sized hand and the wider foot provides great security when manoeuvering the razor. I would change nothing in the handle and I think it’s shape, particularly the thin waist, aids the impression of manoeuverability.

Many words have already been written about the Vector’s head about how small and nimble it is and I agree – it’s a beautiful concept and design with the exception of the sharp corners at the front of the top cap, which in my opinion are a design error (this will be easily corrected when I polish the head.) Other than that I think the design is elegant, clever and very cool looking. A master piece.

My first handful of shaves with both the Blackbird and Sabre were spoilt by the drag I experienced. Over the course of 5-6 shaves (actually more on the sabre) the feeling of drag diminished. I don’t know how, both my Blackbird and my Sabre were machined finished (I polished them) and it wasn’t the polishing that made the difference. I suspect my technique tuned itself to minimize the feel of drag. After the learning curve both razors have become firm favourites (i.e. not sold on!) In fact the Blackbird is my #1 razor (DE or SE).

The shave of the Vector has that family feel: a little bit of blade feel to let you know you have a razor-sharp piece of steel on your face, cool aesthetics and great results. Over the course of the last week the Vector has smoothed out (more likely I’ve adapted) and today it was just as smooth as the General (which is Lexus LS460 smooooooth) and gave a very slightly better / closer shave with no perceptible drag. Again I don’t understand how the drag that was so clearly felt on the first few shaves has reduced (I’ve used a blade through its life-cycle and didn’t notice this level of smoothing off, so it’s not the blade) but maybe my technique has changed more than I appreciate.

In summary, the Vector is now as smooth as the very smooth General and much more ‘fun’ to use, plus it looks so much cooler too. It's a great razor and I love using it. I hope to have time this weekend to polish it and will post photos.
