Yaqi IBC shavette clone

It's... alive!
Hi folks,

I don't have any experience with the original IBC shavette, and I only use shavettes once in a while anyway, but I'd thought it was an interesting design.
Yaqi seem to have come up with a zamak clone that looks somewhat similar:

I think the biggest apparent difference, other than the material used, is that Yaqi's clone uses a wheel-like screw (I don't think it was removable on the original, but I might be wrong).

I like that it's a heftier razor, but I reckon I might lose the screw rather quickly and I prefer half-de shavettes, so I'm not sure I'll be getting it... but I'm tempted. 🤔

The IBC can. I think I will have to get this one as I have the original and would like to compare them.
Yeees, Yeeeeessss, do iiiit. ;-)

Considering the original can be had for ~£60 in the UK and the Yaqi is ~£15, it would be an interesting to read about the actual differences in use and in build quality.

The Order is already in! It will have to be very good to oust my Focus razors off the top slot!

Well it arrived this morning. This is one heavy razor with most of the weight in the handle. I haven't used it yet....but I think I may struggle with the balance.

and a comparison shot with the original

I suspect that IBC have little to worry about.
That may be unkind...especially as I haven't used it yet and YMMV.....but it just doesn't 'sit right' for me as I am more used to shaving with the Aluminium Focus

Thanks for sharing. :)
How much heaver do you reckon the handle is compared to the head?

I am afraid that I do not have scales ...but it feels as if most of the weight is right at the end of the razor. There is almost 1/2 inch of solid metal right at the end. When opening...the blade holder has free play and. tightening the pivot screw has no effect . The scales rest heavily on the finger on the tang during the dummy runs I have had

A few months ago i acquired this IBC clone made by someone else, not Yaqi.
IBC clone shavette

The only downsides of it is that it has no magnets to help position the blade, so it's a bit fiddly but manageable, and that it may be loose at the pivot point, but due to the screw, i took it apart solved it by inserting a single plastic washer on one side, so i can screw it as tight as i like now.
However, it's excellent with both AC and half DE blades. The half DE's have a +1mm exposure, but are held stiff as "eff" (as well as AC blades) due to the screw. It gives me excellent shaves with both AC and Perma-Sharp halves. It's well balanced, That said, the price in mind, and my former expereience with several other half DE shavettes, i'm free to say that this is THE best buy to enter into the shavette world. AC only shavettes aside, this can easily be the one you start with, and always return to after you've tried everything. Or a stepping stone for buying the original. If i had the funds i'd do that in a blink of an eye, but i'm more than satisfied with the next best thing, and that's also a reason for me not condemning chinese clones. If they wouldn't exist, i'd never be able to try an AC blade.
