Shaving speed

Hey Shavers,

Just wanted to get a thread going about shaving speed.

I was lucky enough to get a Paradigm Shave Ti2. When I started shaving with it I shaved "carefully" i.e. slowly and I wasn't getting great results. Good results, but not the rave shaves I expected. To give you an idea of speed - I usually shave the pace of this video -

Overnight, I read reviews of the Rex Adjustable. A reviewer said they'd have rough shaves initially from the Rex and so put it aside after trying various remedial actions. Later they picked it up again when they were short of time and shaved much quicker with it - 3 passes in 7 minutes and got spectacular results.

I tend towards mild razors and I'd say the Ti2 was mid -aggressive. I was nervous, half expecting to take a chunk out my face, but I threw caution to the wind and shaved very light and very fast > double the speed.

WOW - it worked! A spectacular and smooth BBS. Have you experimented with pace like this?

When you are learning to shave with a straight razor I would not recommend trying for speed first, that comes with improved shaving technique. I think the key to your success was not the speed part but the very light part. A lot of people use too much weight on a DE, especially if coming from using carts. Just the weight of the razor is enough and all you do is guide it.

To keep it honest I shave daily and I enjoy doing it and while its a routine I do no drag it out. After I'm done whipping the lather I do 3 passes without rinsing my face in between passes, I just have to keep the lather a tad bit shinier AKA more water than I would add vs if I was rinsing my face after every pass. No matter if I use RR Mamba or all the way up to MMOC or Fatip Grande I get 3 passes done sometimes in less than 3 minutes.

This is not me rushing the shave, just a normal take it easy shave but I'm done with the shave real fast.

Contrary to OP, I've been taking my time with each stroke lately – doubled the pace? – and seem to notice better shaves, both in smoothness and closeness. Goes for Charcoal Lvl3, Timeless .95 and Paradigm 17-4.

This is an interesting discussion. As was mentioned further up the thread, I think the key was speed brought a necessarily lighter touch. So perhaps slower and no pressure....I thought I was applying no pressure until I got the ti 17-4!

I am not lower of speedy shaving, but neather to slow. Moderate speed, fool fokus,enjoying in every cross.
