I have just joined this nice forum the other day, I have been an enthusiast of DE shaving for about ten years, with fair results, but only lately I have been able to step up the quality of my shaving.
Let me rewind: my first, and only DE razor until a few weeks ago, has been a Mühle Style in the stylish version you can see below. To be honest, I haven't tried so many DE blades brands, mainly Mühle, Wilkinson, Gillette and a few other names. Despite a careful preparation, I very often got nicks, being my hardest area my neck and chin. After a very long time I finally decided to buy a Feather AS-D2, and it was a game changer. Regardless of using it with Feather blades or Mühle blades, I found the shaving much easier and I significantly reduced the nicks and cuts to almost zero.
I usually put on my skin a pre-shave oil (to be discussed more later), and I lather directly on my face the shaving soap (I use Cella shaving soap, tried a few other ones), shave once WTG, and then apply another round of soap and shave again sideways, and in some spots against the grain.
Whenever I spot some areas that are not perfectly shaved, I usually put only a little of shaving oil and proceed for one more shaving on the spot.
I assume my beard is not the easiest (hard hairs, random directions on the neck) but with a lot of trial and error, I managed to get very good results, and some times, even great results (but it takes a lot of patience).
