Junk mail

There are days when I would prefer the vivid brochures delivered to my house by Canada post be required to be sent in an envelope. That envelope should have the sender's name on it so I can decide if I want to see the contents.

junk mail got out of control for the apartment we were in... had to check our mail hole once a week... got a note from usps telling us they couldn't get the mail in the hole... wrote them a note telling them to just chuck out the junk mail... the roommate(?) and us just needed 2 bills that came the first week of every month...

Years ago the tv commentator, Andy Rooney, did a segment on junk mail. He had great fun using the prepaid return envelopes, stuffing one company’s junk into another company’s envelope just to play with their heads when the envelope was received and opened. Beyond simply having a giggle, he rationalized that the postage was already guaranteed so it wasn’t hurting anyone. Further, he said, what with emails and paperless billing and bill payments gaining popularity (Rooney was prescient) the USPS would still be able to employ an army of letter carriers, sorters, truck drivers, etc. Rooney’s presentation was so silly and compelling I tried it myself. It was extremely gratifying :)

The house I bought belonged to surviving spouse of a veteran. She died in 2019. I continue to receive her Tri Care mail as well as a magazine subscription. I used to write return to sender, but now I deposit into the recycle bin.
Same with our flat. Bought in 2020, we still get mail for the previous owners despite repeatedly sending back. There's only so far you can go with it like you say 🙄
