Well well well…
Didn’t plan it, but my Gillette RFB #44 somehow turned into my experiment razor. I picked one up from a Canadian eBay seller about a month ago. Nice condition overall: straight teeth, no cracks or bumps.

Got the razor yesterday and already sent it off to a master for cleaning and “restoration.”

Here’s the result:

Now it’s stripped down to polished brass. Looks cool, but the master said that it scratches super easily, even with a microfiber.
So now I’m thinking about getting it replated in silver, but not sure where to do it. I know Razor Emporium does it, but I’m outside the US, and shipping + cost would be painful. Any recommendations?

Well, I found a company that re-silvered the razor and it turned out great but I realized the handle doesn’t screw onto the head anymore. I guess some metal was removed during restoration/polishing and that caused it. The handle from my British Tech fits well, but it smaller.

This RFB has slightly thinner teeth than the above ball-end #44, and is stamped "Made in Canada", which makes it (IMO) somewhat rarer. The oddity is the handle, which is hollow yet hefty, but fits EXACTLY into the case and under the head. I have seen Gillette handles like this before, but only in images (the H

Already pointed out by Toby C, quite some time ago. Scroll back.

The picture I am looking at directly above? Those two, side by side? RFBs.

But why not write here? Go for it, I say.
