Am I Missing Something?

I had a perfect yet simple shave this morning, and I was just laughing to myself as it occurred to me just how little today's kit cost. Some of these costs are estimates, as I can't recall exactly what I paid. All prices in USD:
1970s Gillette black handled Superspeed bought used 5 years ago for $5
Rapira blade on its second shave. They cost $4.50 per 100 delivered from Russia
Williams Mug Soap. 99 cents.
Omega 10083 "Professional" brush. Less than $10 in 2013; probably $7 or $8.
Barbasol Brisk after shave. $2 for 100ml
Mennen Afta balm $2.

I wasn't trying to be frugal with today's shave, though I am trying to limit myself to Williams, Arko, or Palmolive for Lent. It just happened that I chose these items. And they all performed brilliantly.

It's the experience culture IMO @Steve Bowles
Nothing wrong with it at all, everyone to their own and I feel I am part of that culture myself. This is where the term YMMV appears as it's more subtle than exercising thoughts on generation differences, income differences linked to spending profiles or bias and marketing. Or in other words the wheel has turned too many times that YMMV acts as a good buffer to any discussion.

I'll be honest, I've just ploughed a lot of money into a house, this is perhaps more so the reason for my no buy 2018 rather than not wanting to buy anything. However, by following this through I'm learning how I can over time hop, skip and jump the hype by following other's experiences and thus not need to buy. But my money is still spent elsewhere or saved for something else in the future.

I have customers who have for over 40 years not changed from Ingram's or Palmolive. Who use their hands to lather and a cheap £1 Bic disposable. They have great enjoyable shaves.
Variety is the spice of life, choose what spices work best for you.

No, you haven't missed anything, I had no choice but to use Wilkinson Sword
For ten days on holyday last week and had some terrific shave off it every time.
I have a collection of soaps form Martin de, B&B, Taylors of Bond street, Stirling.
Just to name a few, just marginally better. But I still achieved terrific shave from
the Wilkinson. (you pay the money you take your choice, at the end of the day)
I will still buy other soaps.

No you haven't missed anything what you are experiencing is life. No matter what you want to buy there is a budget, mid range and expensive option. All options work but it depends on which option you want to go with. Be it Baked Beans, Cars, or in our case shaving soaps.
Tried this, but the baked beans clogged my razor.
Maybe I should sieve the bean juice.......at least it will cover any weepers
