There was a British guy that made some videos i rather liked. Can't remember his name for the life of me. I want to say Simon but that may not be it at all. Sometimes wearing glasses. He stopped making videos over a year ago.
Oh curse my poor memory

Yup, I was only watching for technique tips, but once I had my own thang going on I stopped. I have no interest in the videos of people plugging or pontificating on different products. I'd only start watching videos again if I was going to start using straights.
Nail on head. Haven't watched online videos since.

Well, I don't think I look at techniques anymore as I mostly watch the same people. But you do learn about other useful stuff, I would have never zoomed in on my top 3 fav blades so quickly for instance if I hadn't watched Nick's Shaves extensive review on a number of blades .... the idea of a multi pack of blades never interested me, perhaps I knew too much to know that most of the blades in the pack were considered rubbish by lots of people on the Internet. Using a scuttle came from there too, etc.

I'm a big fun of You Tube for learning stuff. This is nothing to do with shaving but illustrate why I'm a fan  Some years ago I had a problem with the softtop of my car. I took it to the specialist that I know well and the quoted me £100 + Vat to fix. Out of curiosity I searched on You Tube and I fixed the problem at zero cost to me. Only 2 months ago I fixed the tumble dryer for the second time (two different issues) thanks to You Tube....

When my wife gave me the Merkur 34G for my birthday I thought.... mmmm, I forgot how to use one of these but I knew I would find out very quickly :D

Do I sense that some people feel uncomfortable watching other men shave? :giggle: - BTW, not directed to you @chrisbd

No offence taken, @Merkurologist, perhaps I should have made it clear I was referring to shaving related videos. Having got the basics from Youtube I could work on my technique. It's not so much a case of feeling awkward watching other men shave (although I could understand some might), more that I don't think videos can help me in that direction.

I've often searched Youtube videos for help in other matters, eg changing later model VW headlamp bulbs (a procedure designed to make you return to your friendly dealership). But it has to be said there is also a boatload of tripe peddled on Youtube under the guise of instruction eg unlocking mobile phones.

Chris

Personally speaking, I don't have a problem with watching some videos, for as you say, instructional purposes (I used one to fix a toilet). I don't need watch one to decide on my next soap, blade or AS.

Undoubtedly, there are things there that are best avoided.

On technique.... I've done face mapping and all that. I'm now mastering ways to hold the razor which in turns affect the angle of the razor and so on. Very happy with the things I'm discovering. Some razors make this angle so easy to get so the razors are very popular. I find the very essence of one having to learn the technique of getting the best angle exciting. Maybe you can't follow what I'm waffling about  there is one area under my jaw that is difficult to get it BBS so holding the razor differently helped considerably and I picked that from YouTube.... and I'm now using the other hand which gives me best results so far .

I like watching TSE's video's. He is controversial sometimes and his constant naming the Plisson as 'The brush of the god's' does grate after a while but they are usually good video's. There is something rather calming about our very own Nick Sorrell's video's. His voice I find rather soothing....In a manly I like rugby and drinking real ale way of course.

I like the barber shave videos such as ASMR Barber, Nomad Barber and Haircut Harry... I find them extremely relaxing to watch.

Yep, I'd agree with that too. Been tuning into Nick's channel a lot lately also.
Thanks chaps :) Much appreciated :D
