Tutorial - How to Reknot

Interesting opinion ..When replying to Simon I did make the comment that coins are what I use and Simon replied stating the coins gave his brush a nice weight which he was happy with. :)

As regards adhesives some prefer super glue, some like yourself prefer silicone but I prefer epoxy.:)
True, but I find that there is substantial difference in the weight of different resins, different mass and density. And this one is quite heavy already.

But as regards alternatives to coins, any ideas? Some sort of plates made from light metals? Washers? Edit: Ah, @p.b didnt see your post before posting. Don’t think I have any big enough, but will have a look see.

When perfect loft is found, epoxy is good. But once set with silicone, I won’t pull the knot out just to replace with epoxy. If it comes out or I just used a small dab, I’ll use epoxy too:thumbsup:

I have a Yaqi Moka synthetic 24mm and I love the handle but the knot is way too soft for me. I'm pretty handy and feel confident I can remove the existing knot, but when ordering a replacement knot should I be okay to get a 24mm or do I need to wait until I've got the knot out and measure the hole first?

Measure the hole before ordering a knot.

Remove the knot before ordering a replacement. If disaster strikes at least your not left holding a spare knot.

This was my first re-knotting. I am a huge fan in the use of silicone to set a knot. It does not dry too fast and can offer corrective measures if adjustments need to be made.

Well done! Very nice job.

IMO a 5p size blob of thoroughly mixed epoxy should be ample. Far better to use too little rather than too much and have the epoxy oozing over the top of the socket. :)
Thanks James 😊 and thank you for all your help! I put a thin layer in the socket, not up the sides, and a thin layer on the plug of the new knot, fingers crossed it holds!
