Starling Bank

I thought this was interesting.
I am looking to make a purchase from someone on Gumtree.
They are half an hour away, so agreeing stuff before i commit to time and fuel etc.
It is a few quid, so would take me a few trips to a cash machine.

I asked if she was happy with paypal as i think it would transfer direct.
I am not happy with banking with my phone, so didn't want to do that. I have heard stuff about that.
Anyway, she suggested a bank request. So she sent me an invoice as a test to see if paypal was on it.
I think it is a business account.

I online chatted with Starling bank.
She said that it sounded like a legitimate request.

What I found interesting is the amount of info it requested.

Name
email
Postcode.
Long card number.
Expiry date
3 digit code on the back.

Now, if i was to scam something.... I wonder what info i would try and get off someone.....

I asked if the lady at Starling chat would give me that info please of herself.
She said definitely not.

Seems like maybe they need to rethink that a little bit?

I am pretty sure it is legit, as the person will happily take cash.
I was just trying to avoid keep going to the cash point and carrying bundles of cash about.
But i think i will go get cash.....

Complicated world isn't it?

Is Starling your bank or theirs? I'm assuming theirs given that you don't bank on your phone. If it's a Starling web page that's asking for those details then other phone-based banks do it the same way, e.g. Monzo. I can understand though why you might trust the Starling website less than Paypal which you've used many times before.

It is their bank account.
I would rather not use paypal on my phone either really.
But at least that is me sending money directly to someone.
All they get is my money and email.

I am not giving out all of my personal info on my phone to someone.
Or some random info gathering mobile phone internet site :)
