Got my monies worth today watching the Canadian Womens Soccer team get defeated by Germany and eliminated from further play. I say that as they played through regular time and 2 OT periods with no score and had to have it settled in the penalty shots shootout. You can't ask for a tighter game than that. I believe Germany will play the US team for the gold next. Just goes to show you there is not much separating the athletes at this level of competition.

My wife’s aunt’s husband’s grandson, Zach Hammer, is competing in the Sport Climbing event  He just graduated from high school in June. Afaik his event is set for August 6th at 7 AM. I must set a reminder to set the DVR.
Well, unfortunately young Zach didn’t make it passed the qualifying round. He was, however, the only competitor who stepped up to the starting point with a happy smile on his face. You could tell he was enjoying the moment completely. The person who beat him in the last round was his teammate who also happened to set a new world record. Congratulations to all!

Getting as far as he did was a massive achievement in itself, and being defeated by someone setting a world record certainly has no shame in it. Well done Zach!

Thanks, Chris. Yep, he definitely understands the significance of it all. I’m guessing he’ll train his butt off for the next four years and will be back in Los Angeles.
