I cannot tell which is which and having discussed the plating with the fella that owns both, sometimes he struggles. He had mixed one of the JJ nickel base plates in amongst the rhodium set and had to look carefully at each one before finding the odd man out. Beautiful finishes.

Wow, I’m sorry about that. Feel free to send it back and I’ll get them out, I didn’t see them when I checked it.
Can they come out then? I was just showing it so people know how it is, wasn't criticising the work, I presumed that's the best it can get?

I use three finishing wheels, then three pastes and mops, finally hand polish with autosol. So that’s seven stages in total. I would run the final finishing wheel again, then the three pastes. If you’re happy to try yourself, use circular motions with autosol, as brass is soft enough that would remove the micro scratches. When working with brass I have to be very careful as it’s very soft. The stainless 6S is the other end of the scale. Why I like plating, is needs micro scratches to stick and polishes up better.

Thank you for explaining you were describing the finish and not dissatisfied. I’m always open and honest, so would rather people see that there could be very faint marks under certain lights. I need to find out what lights show them up and get some!

I'm interested to know why your hand polish is with Autosol, which is quite an aggressive polish compared to something like MAAS. Is there a particular benefit to using Autosol?

Iv used Autosol for 40 years.
i started polishing the chrome on my motorbikes away back then.
since then iv used it for all sorts including my razors.
I don’t think it’s aggressive at all
but like all polishes care is needed

Because I have used it since the late 80’s on projects, bikes, classic cars and everything else without an issue. A tiny bit goes a long way and I have found it works well. What is MAAS? I would be very open to trying new products. I am still learning and if there is something less aggressive that works better I’m very keen to try. In the plating process the initial plate comes out and weighing half an hour scales up and that needs an aggressive polish to remove it. But I would be very happy to ad something finer after. Although this new set up I have used does not seem to have that problem.
