New scales for my SK3

I recently completed the full set of Saito SK razors when I found the #3. My other two have custom scales as I find that the originals are not top quality and don’t do justice to the blades.

For this one I decided to use a combination of ebony and white liner that I used once before - ebony is great for razors as it’s such a tight grain that water is not a problem. I used a couple of coats of finishing oil then polished with a compound designed for plastics but which works well on horn, bone and wood.

This is how it turned out.

Great job. The white liner is a perfect contrast with the ebony scales

Quite lovely. I have to say, I don't care much about these Saito, but you did a terrific job, well done.

The usual masterclass in restoration craftsmanship, Rob. Take a bow sir but watch your lower back - it’s bound to be sore by now…

:notworthy:

May I ask where you got the materials for the scales as I wouldn't mind having a go at rescaling a 5/8 Joseph Rogers I have acquired.

@Darrenj67 - from memory the black is horn and the white is corian - both available on EBay. Horn can be bought in suitable sized blanks and thinned as necessary but coriander comes at least twice as thick so needs a lot more thinning. I have a very fine Japanese pull saw that’s good for cutting to required thickness and I then have a rotating sander for the finer work.
