Kamisori razor

I am looking for a kamisori razor.

I have about one year of experience with Dovo Bismark 6/8 and Boker 5/8, and I am not bad.

Kamisori looks like a challenge for me. I have tried to buy locally in Australia, but the offer is skinny.

Some idea of which Kamisori will be good for the absolute beginner will be helpful.

Kamisori are mostly alike - the most popular blade length starts at around 50mm with some bigger and wider But still far shorter cutting length than a western style straight. I don’t think there’s any such thing as a beginners razor - if it’s sharp it’s good enough.

Traditionally they are meant to be used on one side only - the grind is asymmetrical and the rear side is meant to be against the face. In practice, I find it almost impossible to maintain this without getting into awkward positions, so I use them just as I do a western grind and don’t notice any difference.

If you can’t find what you want in Australia, there are loads available on US EBay and will add something like $10 in postage. There‘s one seller in particular who specialises in them so maybe ask him what he would recommend for you to test the waters with.
